Powers/Abilities: The Wasp possessed the
ability to alter her size at will, shrinking to insect proportions
while retaining her full human strength and agility.
In her reduced form, she could fly
using translucent insect-like wings.
This Janet presumably also emitted bio-electric energy bursts, referred to as her "stinger blasts," capable of stunning or incapacitating opponents.

History:
(Marvel Apes I#2/2 - BTS) - After exposure to Pym Particles, Janet Van
Dyne became the costumed super-hero known as the Wasp. As the Wasp,
Janet would use the ability to alter her size and mass to fight crime.
(Marvel Apes I#2/2) - The Wasp fought crime alongside her partner Henry Pym ("Ant-Ape"). Their actions were closely observed by the Watcher, an ancient cosmic being who observes and records events throughout the universe without interfering. Struck by the Wasp's beauty, the Watcher noted he could watch her for a year without blinking.
(Marvel Apes I#1/3) - At an unrevealed point in time the Wasp became part of the Ape-Vengers.
(Marvel Apes I#1/3) - During what would become known as the Silver Age of heroes, the Wasp and the Ape-Vengers would fight alongside other costumed superapes such as Daredevil, Forbush Ape, the X-Simians and the Fantastic Four.
(Marvel Apes I#1/1 - BTS) - While part of the Ape-Vengers, Spider-Monkey developed a crush on the Wasp, much to Gro-Rilla's (Henry Pym) annoyance.
(Marvel Apes I#2/1 - Following the trial of Doctor Ooktopus, the Wasp was seen at Ape-Vengers Tower as Captain America introduced himself to Earth-616's Dr. Fiona Fitzhugh, who had become stranded on the ape world alongside the Gibbon.

Although the Wasp wasn't seen playing any key parts in the Marvel Apes comics she would most likely have gone up against formidable Ape-Vengers foes such as Kong the Conqueror, the Mad Thinker and Ooktron.
She was also seen on the cover of Marvel Apes I#0 (December, 2008), the issue itself was a collection of reprints.
The Marvel Apes limited series (2008) was conceived as a playful companion to the earlier Marvel Zombies phenomenon. Following the unexpected commercial success of Zombies, Marvel looked to replicate the formula by reimagining its superheroes in another offbeat, high-concept alternate reality. Writer Karl Kesel, inspired by Silver Age whimsy and the classic "What If?" tradition, pitched a world where Marvel's heroes and villains were evolved primates rather than humans. The project was greenlit as a four-issue miniseries, launching with a tongue-in-cheek promotional campaign that leaned into its absurdity while still delivering a surprisingly dark, satirical storyline. The series spawned several tie-ins and one-shots, positioning the Ape-Verse as both a parody of and homage to Marvel's multiverse storytelling.
Earth-8101 is the main Marvel Apes reality, but there are
three others as well:
- Earth-81218, possible future of Earth-8101 set in the year
2099.
- Earth-90543, monkey Speedball was send back to his world and
branded a traitor by the Ape-Vengers. This was seen as a bad dream of
the Gibbon.
- Earth-95019, diverged from 8101 when zombies invaded their
world. The reset button was eventually pushed on the original
Earth-8101, diverging the two realities.
This profile was completed on 11/04/2025, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary's celebratory event.
