History:

(Junior Miss I#38/2) - Tiny was bought by Harry Graves as a pet for his daughter Judy. He thought Tiny was too big for their apartment but since Tiny cost only $30 as compared to the tiny dogs which cost $350, he claimed Tiny would make a good watchdog and bought him.

    Judy took Tiny for a walk in the snow and introduced the dog to her best friend Fuffy Adams. Judy had only wanted a dog so she could impress her math teacher, Mr. Jordan, who liked dogs. When Mr. Jordan happened by on the street, Judy attempted to appear aloof with Tiny at her side but Tiny noticed a cat and went to chase it, causing Judy to slip and fall in the snow. Judy blamed Tiny for making her appear foolish in front of her crush and told him he should be ashamed of himself.

    Judy brought Tiny back to their apartment and admitted to her mother Grace that Tiny hadn't turned out as she'd hoped. When Tiny scratched at the door, Judy had to take him for a walk, but the building doorman told her she'd have to go to Central Park with the other dog owners. Returning home, Judy's father reminded her she'd need dog food for Tiny and it would be paid for from her allowance. Realizing she'd made a mistake, Judy returned Tiny to the pet shop and the shop owner promised to return the money her father had paid for Tiny back to him.

    Junior Miss originated as a series of short stories by Sally Benson printed in the New Yorker magazine from 1939-1941; they were bound together as the book, Junior Miss, in 1941. The book inspired a Broadway play (1941-1943), a short-lived CBS radio program (1942), a movie (1945), a 2nd CBS radio series (1948-1950), and a 3rd and final CBS radio series (1952-1954). Marvel had already been publishing a comic called Junior Miss when they arranged to officially adapt the 2nd radio series to the comics in 1950 -- but ultimately it lasted just two issues (#38-39) before being cancelled.
