History:

(Amazing Spider-Man I#187 (fb)) - Barry was the son of the movie star Robert Starr and lived with his family in Los Angeles, California. Just as his father was preparing to go to England to film some location shots, Barry was attacked by a rat and was bitten. Barry's parents rushed him to the doctor's and they analyzed his blood. The doctors determined Barry needed to see a specialist in New York and had him rushed there on a jet, but upon his arrival Barry was abducted by the costumed villain Electro, who held Barry for a $1 million ransom. Electro only knew Barry's parents were wealthy and didn't know about Barry's medical condition. After Barry had disappeared, a lab technician determined Barry had contracted the plague. S.H.I.E.L.D. were mobilized to help search for Barry and in turn, they enlisted the super-hero Captain America for help.

(Amazing Spider-Man I#187) - Electro held Barry at the Indian Point Power Station while he waited for the ransom to come through as he'd been hired by another party (Spencer Smythe) to destroy the power station. Captain America entered the power station and found Barry, but Electro lured the Captain into touchin him so he could stun the hero with an electric shock. Electro's enemy Spider-Man arrived in time to prevent Captain America's death and the two heroes fought Electro. When Electro grabbed Barry and threatened his life in an attempt to keep the heroes at bay, Captain America revealed Barry had the plague. Electro, who had been suffering from a cough, was afraid he'd caught the plague and quickly threw Barry away. Attempting to purge himself, Electro linked himself into the station's power supply, overloading himself with electricity. Captain America carried Barry to safety and they fled the power station as it exploded.

S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Dum Dum Dugan had Barry brought to the doctors and said Barry would recover in two weeks.
