His eye beams are capable of dispelling illusions inside the dreams, transforming Captain America back into his original self.

History: (Marvel Universe Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes#11/2 - BTS) - Sleepwalker was one of the many of his race who policed and protected the Dreamscape from those whose imaginations could cause harm. His history with Nightmare had created an animosity between the two.
(Marvel Universe Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes#11/2) - When Captain America became trapped in a dream word mirroring reality-13472, Sleepwalker set out to return Rogers to his reality. In his dream world, retired family man Steve Rogers was visiting the Oval Office when Sleepwalker appeared and urged Rogers to come with him. Seeing a threat to the President, Rogers threw Sleepwalker across the room. With no time to ease Rogers into the truth, Sleepwalker used his eye beams to transform him back into his youthful form as Captain America. The President promised to help Rogers, but Sleepwalker cautioned that he was not what he appeared to be.
Enraged, "the President" revealed his demonic form and attacked Sleepwalker. Sleepwalker and Captain America fought off the demonic attackers together, as Sleepwalker explained to Rogers that he was trapped in a dream and that his life was not real. Captain America apologized for misjudging Sleepwalker and thanked him, but as soon as they had defeated the minions, their master Nightmare appeared and blasted Sleepwalker with his power. Nightmare tempted Rogers with the life he wished for, offering paradise in exchange for letting Nightmare control his earthly form. Sleepwalker urged Captain America to resist, and he insisted that what he really wanted in his life was the truth. Rogers then woke up in his bedroom at the Avengers Mansion, where Sleepwalker looked at him from the outside, smiling.
