History:
(Sledge Hammer!#1 (fb) - BTS) - Vincent Van Gore was the original host of the Creephouse series. As rating sagged with presentations of old movies, Vincent Van Gore was fired as the host of and replaced with the persona of Satana Knight by Jason Balgoblin.
(Sledge Hammer!#1 (fb) - BTS) - After Van Gore killed the
two previous women who had played Satana Knight (Cynthia
Martian & Julianna Ferocious), however,
this increased the show's ratings, after which Stephanie King took the
role of Satana Knight.
(Sledge Hammer!#1) - Stephanie King checked into the
Sunshine Motel (formerly the Baits Motel, see comments).
(Sledge Hammer!#1 (fb) - BTS) - After the manager, Norman, showed her his stuffed bird collection, he wanted her to meet his mother, but she refused.
(Sledge Hammer!#1) - After Stephanie got into her room, a
woman knocked, asking if her son, Norman, was in there, but Stephanie
told her to get lost. She then turned on TV to Creephouse, where she
watched herself as Satana Knight, joking considering that it was no
wonder they called the TV the "boob tube." Norman soon after knocked on
the door and asked if his mother had been by, but Stephanie told him she
was trying to take a shower.
Someone soon after confronted Stephanie in the shower and tried to kill her with a knife, but Stephanie instead punched him back and then grabbed a towel to cover herself and chased him. After the would-be killer escaped, Stephanie called the police.
Stephanie met with met Captain Trunk,
Inspector Sledge Hammer and Detective Dori Doreau. After hearing the
history and the threats, Sledge suggested that the killer was likely
someone who didn't like the movies Satana chose, but Stephanie told him
that the pictures they played were selected by station manager Jason
Balgoblin. Trunk assigned Hammer and Doreau to investigate Balgoblin but
keep Ms. King with them for her protection. At Doreau's query, Stephanie
explained that she took the part despite the fate of her predecessors as
competition was tough in her career and the job gave her a regular
paycheck and a lot of exposure.
As Stephanie accompanied Hammer and
Doreau into the parking garage, they were threatened by car, which
Stephanie identified as being possessed and from the movie Pristine.
While the car repeatedly recovered from damage done to it by Hammer,
Hammer eventually escaped with Stephanie and Doreau down an elevator.
Stephanie soon after introduced Hammer and Doreau to Balgoblin, who shared that despite the deaths, ratings were doing well. After Balgoblin offered Doreau the position of Satana #4, Stephanie was irate as she wasn't even dead yet.
When Sledge Hammer -- convinced
of his guilt -- wanted to kill him on the spot, Stephanie encouraged him
to do so. However, Doreau convinced Hammer that he could not kill
Balgoblin without evidence.
Hammer and Doreau accompanied Stephanie
to Silver's Gym so she could work out before her personal appearance
that night. As she worked out, she was confronted by someone posing as
Crazy Teddy. While Hammer fired at mirror images, Teddy grabbed
Stephanie, but she flipped him off of her into Hammer.
Recovering before Hammer could get back
to his feet, "Teddy" escaped, but Stephanie considered it the best work
out she'd had in months.
Hours later, Stephanie arrived -- late
because Sledge stopped off at his mother's to have his jacket mended
following Teddy's slashing of it -- with Hammer and Doreau for her
personal appearance at Camp Takahyke.
Apologizing to Ms. Rockwell, Stephanie
changed into her Satana Knight costume and then appeared in front of the
Girl Scout/Brownies-esque campers in a burst of smoke. She told the
girls that she was a professional and that they should not try any of
these tricks at home, unless, of course, they had sent away for her
special effects course.
At the girls' query, Stephanie told
them that the first Satana Knight was a pain in the neck while the other
got too wrapped up in her work. When the girls asked if Hammer and
Doreau had saved her life, she told them that you had to be able to
protect yourself in this crazy world and not rely on "wimps like 'Sludge
Hammerhead.'" Doreau stopped Hammer from responding to this as she was
just joking, but when Satana noted that all Doreau did was carry around
Sledge's pumpkin, Hammer had to hold Doreau back.
As Satana prepared to tell the girls
her stories, however, they were interrupted when the killer, in the form
of Jay-Sin from the "Frightday -- The Hurt Teens" movies, grabbed
Doreau, took her gun and held it her head, telling the cops to stand
aside, or he would shoot Stephanie through them. However, Doreau kicked
her attacker in the knee and threw him off. Satana used her smoke effect
against him, but the cover allowed the killer to escape.
Grabbing Doreau's gun, Stephanie chased
the killer, but her verbal threatening warned him of her approach, and
he smashed her in the shoulder with a shovel as she rounded a corner,
causing her head to bounce off of the side of one of the bunkhouses.
"Jay-Sin" then carried her into the bunkhouse, which he apparently had
lit on fire.
Ms. Rockwell and the kids fled, and the
killer held off Hammer and Doreau until he ran out of bullets, after
which Hammer kicked in the door. The killer splashed juice on Satana's
face, reviving her, after which he removed his mask and revealed his
identity as Vincent Van Gore. Stephanie at least claimed that she had
known it was him.
After Van Gore detailed his history and
actions, he announced that he would end it all by dying in the burning
building with his victim. A burning support beam then fell and struck
Van Gore, knocking him out, and Satana remarked that she had though he
would never shut up.
Although Hammer stayed behind to try to recover a girl's doll, Satana fled outside.
The burning building soon after collapsed, but Smokey
the Bear carried Hammer (who had recovered the wrong doll) out to safety.
The next day, Satana Knight announced that all week
they were going to be showing favorites from England's fright factory,
Hammer Films, and that it was all dedicated to her favorite police offer,
Sledge Hammer.
Sledge
Hammer, which only lasted two issues, was based on the comedy cop show of
the same name starring David Rasche as the titular Hammer. Sledge was an
over-the-top tough cop, in the vein of Dirty Harry if Harry was ramped up
to eleven.
Satana Knight, a TV horror host in the vein of Elvira
but based on Marvel's Satana.
I don't see why the comics version at least couldn't be slotted into 616 so long as it is part of the sliding timescale. Pre-Modern, there would be a problem, since Sledge knows who Spider-Man is, something that would be tricky if Spider-Man did not yet exist. Not impossible in theory, because it is a world with time travel and precognition both options, but unlikely.
Not sure if that could apply to the TV version too, but perhaps. Absence of superheroes is not evidence they don't exist, just evidence that Sledge doesn't run into them all that often. And given that his series is set in San Francisco, and for the longest time there was a lot less superhuman activity in California (thanks in part to the Pride), under normal circumstances who would Sledge be likely to encounter? Daredevil, Black Widow and Spider-Woman lived there prior to when Sledge was active, and the X-Men moved there many years after Sledge's time.
Other obvious homages/parodies.
