History:

(Star Brand I#15/2) - Rory was an officer of the U.S. Border Patrol stationed on the border with Canada. His fellow officers were Lt. Hudson and Ivy. Rory was a paranormal, one of thousands whose parabilities had emerged following the White Event on July 22, 1986 (caused by the Star Brand). Rory discovered he could create a "golem" made of dirt that would mimic his own actions. Rory was afraid that if people learned of his parability he'd be treated as a scientific oddity.

(Star Brand I#15/2) - One day, Leland Sharp arrived at the border, wanting to enter Canada. As the draft had been reinstituted there were many men trying to dodge the draft by entering Canada, along with heightened tension due to incidents with paranormals (although the Border Patrol were unaware paranormals were being drafted into the Army's Paranormal Platoon). Consequently, Rory took care to ensure Sharp's documents were in order. Passing them under an ultraviolet light he discovered the papers indicating Sharp had been judged 4F by his draft board were forged papers. Rory, Hudson and Ivy prepared to arrest Sharp.

When Sharp realized he'd been found out he activated his paranormal power, firing psychoplasm from his face, striking Lt. Hudson. Ivy chased after Sharp to arrest him but Sharp opened his shirt and fired more psychoplasm from his body, knocking Ivy down. Sharp grabbed Ivy's sidearm and began firing at Hudson and Rory, who hid behind Sharp's truck for cover. When Rory declared that it was Sharp's duty to serve his country, Sharp informed them the U.S. Army was building a secret army of paranormals to fight World War III.

Sharp finally grabbed Ivy and held the gun to his head, threatening to kill him. To save Ivy, Rory threw down his gun and raised his hands but then used his paranormal to summon up a golem to attack Shrapnel. Shrapnel blasted the golem with his psychoplasm but it had no effect on the creature and Rory finally knocked him out.

Lt. Hudson told Rory he'd have to report on the incident to Washington and Rory was certain to be drafted into the Paranormal Platoon. Rory reconsidered his previous concerns about being known as a parnormal, realizing this was his chance to serve his country. Rory proudly declared he was ready to join the Paranormal Platoon.

Comments: Created by Eric Siry, Rodney Ramos and Don Hudson.

Rory was almost certainly given his surname from co-creator Rodney Ramos - just as Lt. Hudson was named for Don Hudson. Ivy was probably named after inker Chris Ivy.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Rory Ramos should not be confused with:

LT. HUDSON

Lt. Hudson was the commanding officer at the U.S. Border Patrol station where Rory Ramos and Ivy served. Hudson attempted to arrest Shrapnel for carrying forged documents but Shrapnel blasted him in the face with psychoplasm. Hudson soon recovered and joined Rory in a firefight against Shrapnel but one of Shrapnel's bullets hit Hudson in the hand, disarming him. When Hudson discovered Rory was a paranormal he referred to his parability as "voodoo." Hudson congratulated Rory on defeating Shrapnel and intended to report on the incident to Washington, which would mean Rory would have to be drafted into the U.S. Army's Paranormal Platoon.

IVY

Ivy was one of Rory's fellow Border Patrol officers. He was an avid reader of Soldier of Fortune magazine, where he'd read about the dangerous paranormal Rodstvow. Ivy attempted to arrest Shrapnel when he tried to cross the border with forged documents but Shrapnel struck him with psychoplasm and stole his sidearm, which he used to pin down Hudson and Rory. Shrapnel finally tried to use Ivy as a hostage to escape but Rory attacked Shrapnel with his "golem," allowing Ivy to escape him.
