Powers/Abilities: Even though he is a young teenager, Pinto Pete is an exceptional equestrian with a very well trained pony Swifty. He has remarkable skills with his whip and lasso with excellent balancing skills to yank heavy objects away. Pinto Pete has excellent accuracy with a handgun and a very fast draw. He is also an outstanding fighter with brawling skills. Pinto Pete is brave with an inquisitive mind.

History:

(Kid Komics I#1/5 (fb) - BTS) - Pete Webster lived on a the same ranch his whole life with his mother. Teen-aged Pete took on the role of protector of the ranch, and had gained excellent handgun shooting aim plus whip and lasso skills, as well as his well-trained pinto pony Swifty.

(Kid Komics I#1/5) - The villainous Slick Shaw, aided by his two henchmen Stiletto and Greg, was buying up all the local ranches to monopolize the local beef industry, with the Webster Ranch the last one. Shaw intimidated Mrs. Webster to sell but her son Pinto Pete intervened, swinging his guns. He whipped away Stiletto's dagger and the two crooks left scared. Pete knew their scheme and called up his ranch-hand friend Red with the distinctive cry "Ki Yippee Yayyyy!" to pursue the crooks. The pair rode quick into town where they found Shaw spreading lies that Webster was stopping a railroad being built, but Pete interrupted. Henchman Greg tried to tackle the boy but got a smiling spur kick in the groin before Red knocked the rascal out. Pete shot a dagger away thrown by Stiletto in midair and told the crowd of Shaw's real plan and stirred up the assembled crowd to retaliate. Shaw and Stiletto fled in their car but Pete on horseback lassoed Stiletto out from the moving car, then jumped his pony into the car to force Shaw to go back into town to face justice. Having restored order, Pete and Red rushed home to round up cattle.

(Kid Komics I#2/3) - Late at night, neighbor Liz Perry called on Pete and Red to alert that her father had been shot; Pete and Red rushed to investigate and found Mr. Perry injured and the mystery of an inherited map. At Pete's urging, the trio immediately investigated map markings and discovered it pinpointed oil deposits. But the criminal Slim Hadley and his thugs had followed and tied up the trio at gunpoint and took the map, intending to fraudulently transfer ownership of the land as well. Liz had quietly followed and freed the lads once the villains had left by car. Pete and Red pursued the crooks on horseback but were caught once more. Not wishing to leave bullet-ridden bodies, Pete and Red were forced to march to a cliff edge, but the two quickly knocked the thugs out. Alarmed, Hadley drove his car at the heroic pair, but they dodged and Hadley flew off the cliff in his car. Pete and Red later celebrated the oil find with the Perrys, and Pete hoped that Liz would wear pretty lady's clothes with her upcoming wealth.

Readers were promised another Pinto Pete adventure in the last panel of the second story, but the little lad appeared no more.

There were quite a few "Pinto Pete"-named cowboy-type characters from various publishers, including DC, Dell, Fawcett and Charlton.

Slick Hadley

Slick Hadley became aware of a map marking oil deposits on the Perry Ranch. He used his three thugs to shoot Mr. Perry (but he survived) although the daughter Liz escaped and alerted neighbors Pinto Pete and Red, who rushed to investigate. Hadley and his lackeys captured and bound Pete, Red and Mr. Perry; Hadley intended to fraudulently transfer land ownership to himself and then kill Mr. Perry. Hadley and his thugs left, but Liz released the heroes. Pete and Red pursued the crooks but were again captured. Not wishing to leave bullet-ridden bodies, Hadley had his men march the pair to a cliff edge, but the two quickly knocked the thugs out. Alarmed inside the car and unable to reach his gun, Hadley drove his car at the heroic pair, but they dodged and Hadley flew off the cliff in his car, ending him.

Liza Perry

Liza "Liz" Perry lived at Bar-Nine Ranch with her father, next door to the Webster Ranch. Her father inherited a map that he suspected identified oil locations, but the villainous Slick Hadley was also after it and shot Mr. Perry, injuring him. Panicked she rushed to the Websters for help. Pinto Pete left Liz with his mother while he and his pal Red went to investigate but were instead captured. Nervous but curious, Liz went back and saw the criminals having tied up Pete, Red and her father. Thinking quickly, she drained a lot of the fuel from the villains' car and released the heroes once the crooks had left. Pete and Red gave chase and eliminated the villains, and the Perry pair were able to claim the oil. Pete hoped she would buy new clothes to look like a lady, but she intended to outdo Pete's cowboy skills some day.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

--Kid Komics I#2/3

Red

Red was Pinto Pete's close adult pal and apparently a ranch hand on the Webster Ranch. He joined in Pete's adventures, always at Pete's side. Pete called on Red to help pursue the villainous land-grabber Slick Shaw and Red helped knock out Shaw's enforcer Greg. Later, he was with Pete in the Webster Ranch house when panicked neighbor Liza Perry arrived at night to report of the crook Slick Hadley nearly killing her father. Pete and Red investigated and discovered the coveted map revealed oil deposits on the Hadley Ranch. However, Red and Pete were captured but freed by Liz, and gave chase to the crooks. Trapped, they fought free of Hadley's thugs and dodged Hadley's speeding car that saw the crook dive off a cliff. Red and Pete later celebrated the oil find with the Perrys.

   Red (nicknamed for his red hair) was an excellent horseman and brawler, and good aim with a handgun. He was a loyal to Pete but seemed a little simple-minded.

Slick Shaw

Slick Shaw was a criminal land-grabber, intimidating ranch owners using his henchmen Stiletto and Greg to sell their land to him cheap so that he could monopolize the local beef industry and drive up prices. The last ranch he targeted was Mrs. Webster, but her son Pinto Pete intervened and scared Shaw and his thugs off. In town, Shaw rallied townsfolk against Webster by claiming she was stopping a helpful railroad from being built, but Pete again interrupted and revealed the truth to the crowd, which instead turned on Shaw. The crook fled with Stiletto in his car but was stopped by Pinto Pete in an incredible feat of horsemanship, and was forced back into town to face justice alongside his henchmen.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

--Kid Komics I#1/5

Stiletto

Stiletto was an enforcer of the villainous Slick Shaw. He used a long stiletto dagger and spoke with a heavy Spanish accent. Shaw used Stiletto to intimidate Mrs. Webster to sell he ranch so that Shaw could secretly monopolize the local beef industry. However, Her son Pinto Pete intervened and whipped the dagger out of the crook's hand. Later in town, Stiletto stood by Shaw's side when he was rallying townsfolk against Mrs, Webster until Pete again interrupted. On command, Stiletto threw a dagger at the boy, but Pete shot it out in midair. Shaw and Stiletto fled in their car when Pete revealed Shaw's true scheme to the crowd and they chased the villains. On horseback, Pete lassoed Stiletto out of the moving car and he later faced justice for his crimes.

Swifty

Swifty was Pinto Pete's faithful pony. He had been exceptionally well trained to respond to Pete Webster (presumably leading to Pete being called "Pinto Pete"). He was fast, strong and had high endurance. Pete was even able to make Swifty jump safely into a moving car on one occasion.

   Swifty is not identified by gender except once as "fella", so I'll take that as a male.
