Powers/Abilities: The Patriot is an entity of unconfirmed origins whose true form appears to be completely invisible. The entity can teleport himself and others by converting into gaseous, mist-like form and he can open portals into other realities and dimensions.
The Patriot can cause intense psychic pain in others via unrevealed means and he was once seen being able to interact with the running speedster Speed, though whether the entity was moving at superhuman speed himself or somehow holding the running Speed in place remains to be seen.
The Patriot entity is extremely
skilled at dodging punches and kicks despite often moving in jerky,
shambling motions.

History:
(Young Avengers II#13 (fb) - BTS) - While unconfirmed, the theory of
the Patriot entity's origins was that he was formerly a young superhero
from an alternate future reality that sacrificed his humanity to become
a temporal echo traveling back through time to ensure certain events
occur leading up to the Young Avenger Wiccan's destiny as the mystic
Demiurge (see comments).
(Young Avengers II#6 (fb) -
BTS) - The extradimensional entity assumed the form of the former Young
Avenger Patriot and broke into a business that employed teen heroes
Prodigy and Speed, stealing the company's assembly components.
(Young Avengers II#6 - BTS) - The next morning, Tommy Shepherd (Speed) and David Alleyne (Prodigy) arrived for work, they noticed the law enforcement presence and when they asked what was going on, their boss showed them footage of the Patriot from the security cameras. Immediately recognizing what he thought was his former teammate in the Young Avengers, Tommy rushed outside to call the Bradley family. Learning from Mrs. Bradley that Elijah Bradley (the former Young Avenger Patriot) had been in bed for two weeks, Tommy deduced that the thief had to be an impersonator and he decided to stake out the building, pressuring David to join him. The two later staked out the building warehouse in their heroic identities of Speed and Prodigy and they soon witnessed the Patriot entity shambling into the warehouse. Angry that the entity was posing as his friend, Speed immediately ran into battle demanding the entity remove the Patriot costume but the silent entity merely looked at Speed and the hero fell to the ground in seeming psychic agony. Speed then attempted to run away but Patriot calmly touched Speed's shoulder and Speed disappeared, leaving only a waft of smoke in his wake. A shocked Prodigy demanded to know who the entity was but the Patriot only responded with "what you can't outrun." Prodigy then questioned what the entity had done to Speed but the Patriot replied "You'll never know." before asking if Prodigy wanted Speed back. A confused Prodigy then asked what the entity was talking about and the Patriot entity removed a glove and motioned towards Prodigy, remarking "Accept." When Prodigy refused to wear the glove and accused the entity of being insane in response, the Patriot entity commented "Denial." then teleported away.
(Young Avengers II#7) - After
Prodigy contacted the new Young Avengers teamed and informed them of
the Patriot's disappearance of Speed, the group traveled back to the
warehouse where Speed had encountered the entity and tracked the entity
into the Multiverse. Appearing before the group as they prepared to
enter a portal generated by America Chavez, the Patriot entity beckoned
them forward into another portal, mimicking the sound of a ticking
cloak as he ran into the portal.
(Young Avengers II#8 (fb) - BTS) - The Patriot entity
traveled to the home dimension of the extradimensional parasite Mother
and informed her that the Young Avengers would be arriving at some
point.
(Young Avengers II#8) - Following adventures in several different alternate realities while tracking the Patriot, the Young Avengers managed to transport themselves to Mother's home dimension, where they found the Patriot entity waiting, having seeming led them into a trap. Patriot put his hand on Mother's shoulder and she informed the Young Avengers about how the Patriot had informed her they would be arriving. She then attempted to capture the Young Avengers but only succeeded in capturing Hulkling and Prodigy before America Chavez teleported the rest of the team elsewhere, expressing a desire to kill the Patriot entity upon their arrival.
(Young Avengers II#9 (fb) -
BTS) - Having led the Young Avengers to Mother, the Patriot entity
disappeared from Mother's home dimension.
(Young Avengers II#9) - After the Young Avengers rescued Hulkling and Prodigy and teleported back to Earth-616, the Patriot entity was waiting for them in the same place they had originally left from. He remarked "At last." before again mimicking the sound of ticking clock, bowing then teleporting away in a mist-like form. America again announced plans to kill the Patriot entity but Prodigy suggested the Patriot was toying with them when he could have easily killed them by leading the team into a vacuum or lava or some other deadly dimension. The group then decided to get food and as they ate, they discussed whether the Patriot entity and Mother were truly working together. They discussed the possibility that the Patriot entity had merely allied with Mother rather than inherently working together and how they could save Speed without having to continue chasing the Patriot.
(Young Avengers II#10) - Loki later with Mother in a mystic illusion and questioned whether the Patriot had chosen the dimension they had gotten stuck in when they escaped Mother earlier but Mother replied in the negative. He then asked Mother who the Patriot really was but Mother admitted she had no clue. Loki eventually dissipated his mystic form, confident he had learned all he wanted to from Mother, and Mother turned, commenting to the Patriot entity that at least Loki was interested in him. She then asked the Patriot what was on his mind and the Patriot replied "Denial." Noting how frustrating the entity could be, Mother commended the entity on having led the Young Avengers there but remarked that he never told her anything of importance. She then smiled, noting how he had returned to her dimension with no protection and that she was always so hungry. Unfazed by Mother's vague threats, the Patriot entity extended his hand towards her and she considered devouring the entity before realizing he was nothing more than a trap for her. The Patriot then replied "One no one escapes." before teleporting away in his gaseous form. In an effort to get at Loki, the mystic construct Leah subsequently made a deal with Mother and, acting as a sort of therapist for Hulkling, later led Hulkling into a secret trap disguised as a group therapy session and when Hulkling saw the Patriot entity there, he immediately demanded to know where Speed was. The entity responded only with the word "Denial." and Leah assured Hulkling that the entity would explain itself in time. As the group therapy session continued, Leah questioned how the Patriot felt about Kate Bishop and the Patriot replied "No one escapes."
(Young Avengers II#11 (fb) - BTS) - After Leah tricked Hulkling into leaving the therapy session through a door that led to New York, where he was captured by Mother, the Patriot entity accompanied Mother, Leah and the other mystic constructs from the group therapy session back to Mother's home dimension.
(Young Avengers I#11 - BTS) - The Leah construct
called Loki using Hulkling's phone and sent him a photo of the Patriot
entity standing alongside Mother and the captive Hulkling, noting
Mother's plan to unleash evil alternate reality Young Avengers
counterparts onto Earth-616 to destroy it. Loki quickly organized the
Young Avengers and explained the situation to them, suggesting that
they could save Earth and also advance their search for the missing
Speed as a silver lining to the situation since the Patriot entity was
with Mother.
(Young Avengers II#12) - Still in Mother's dimension, the Patriot entity announced the coming of the Young Avengers while playing with Tarot cards with the Leah construct. Intrigued by the Patriot entity, who was not a mystic construct like their allies, Leah asked the entity what his story was but the entity replied only by mimicking the sound of a ticking clock and stating "What you can't outrun." as he placed ominous Tarot cards on the ground. When the Young Avengers subsequently arrived in Mother's dimension to free Hulkling, the Patriot entity quiet watched as they attacked Mother. Prodigy soon took the fight to the Patriot entity but the entity easily dodged Prodigy's punches while repeating his ticking clock sounds. When Prodigy angrily yelled that whatever the entity thought was happening wasn't, the Patriot responded with "Denial." The battle then continued to progress with the Patriot easily dodging a kick from Prodigy.
(Young Avengers II#13) - The Patriot dodged another kick from Prodigy and the battle soon came to halt when Loki announced that he had been manipulating the Young Avengers from the beginning in an effort to control the Demiurge magic flowing through Wiccan. Content to see Loki admit his faults, the Leah construct disappeared and the mystic constructs from the group therapy session also disappeared, leaving only the Young Avengers and the Patriot entity as Wiccan battled Mother. The Young Avengers turned their attentions towards the Patriot, who beckoned towards the captured Hulkling and stated "What you can't outrun." He then watched as Loki mystically restored Hulkling. Prodigy soon suggested Hulkling go to assist Wiccan, assuring Hulkling that his love for Wiccan was real, and when the Patriot remarked "What you can't outrun.," Prodigy angrily told the entity to shut up. The entity calmly replied "Denial." in response. As Wiccan and Hulkling reunited, Prodigy commented that he was happy for them and they made a good couple, at which point the Patriot again said "Denial." and Prodigy told Patriot to be quiet. Empowered by Hulkling's love, Wiccan successfully banished Mother and the alternate reality Young Avengers she had released on Earth-616 and the Patriot witnessed Wiccan's astral form return to his body, commenting "No one escapes. Thankfully." Upon waking, Wiccan noticed the Patriot and asked if they could have Speed back but the Patriot replied only with "Denial." before teleporting away in a gaseous form.
(Young Avengers II#15) - As many
of Earth's teen heroes held a party to celebrate not online their
victory over Mother but also the ringing in of a New Year, the Patriot
entity appeared before Prodigy, who was sitting alone on a hillside
near the party. Looking at the entity, Prodigy questioned aloud why he
could not figure out the Patriot despite being so smart. The entity
responded by mimicking a ticking clock at which point Prodigy revealed
his theories of what exactly the entity was. Suggesting that the
Patriot entity was created at some point in the future in relation to
Wiccan's destiny as the Demuirge to travel back in time to ensure
certain events played out the way they were meant to, Prodigy then
suggested that perhaps one of the Young Avengers were destined to
sacrifice their humanity to become the Patriot and ensure the events
took place in their proper time. At first only continuing to mimic
ticking clock sounds, the Patriot entity eventually questioned "What
must be must be. The future...what must the future be?" Intrigued with
the entity's statement potentially adding credo to his theories,
Prodigy asked the entity to tell him what the future must be, at which
point the entity only replied "More future. There must be more future."
Agreeing with the entity's statement, Prodigy then monologued that he
would be the one who sacrifices their humanity to become the Patriot
and the entity remarked that Prodigy would see as he prepared to
teleport away again. Grabbing hold of the entity's arm, Prodigy stopped
the entity from leaving and asked where Speed was. The Patriot entity
responded by making a kissy face and commenting "Denial." The confused
Prodigy admitted he was no longer scared of the entity and kissed the
entity on the lips, at which point the Patriot entity was replaced by
Speed.
(Marvel's Voices Infinity Comic
I#9) - The Patriot entity appeared at the home of Master Pandemonium
and when the enfeebled Master Pandemonium asked who the entity was,
Patriot replied "Negation." Thinking the entity was Death, Master
Pandemonium asked if he had finally come to take him but the Patriot
entity revealed that he was not there for the former villain. Master
Pandemonium quickly realized that the Patriot entity was there for
Speed, who had been caring for the former villain, and he attempted to
talk the entity out of taking Speed away. When the entity attempted to
continue, Master Pandemonium unleashed demons against the entity and
Patriot remarked "Hollow....unfinished..." as the demons tore at his
costume. As energy leaked out from the tears in the costume, Master
Pandemonium noticed a fragment of the reality-warping M'Kraan Crystal
dropped by the Patriot. He then picked up the crystal fragment and
seemingly used it moments before Speed ventured outside to check on
Master Pandemonium, not noticing the empty Patriot costume hanging on
the porch railing.

While the Patriot entity's origins were never truly revealed or confirmed, Prodigy expresses a theory in Young Avengers II#13 that one of the Young Avengers in the future sacrificed their humanity and was transformed into a formless entity that traveled back through time to ensure Wiccan's destiny as the Demiurge. The theory seemed to be at least somewhat supported by the entity itself though his responses were as a vague and cryptic as the character had been since first being introduced in Young Avengers II#6. The entity did comment "There must be more future," suggesting to me that Prodigy's theory was at least somewhat true, as the entity had to ensure the future continued to exist. Prodigy also suggested that it was his own future self that became the entity but the entity only said "You'll see." The statement of "you'll see" also suggests to me that Prodigy's theory was close to the truth, as the entity didn't deny at that point that someone in the future does indeed become the entity. IF the theory is the true origin of the entity then he would be native of an alternate future reality and not of Earth-616. Of course, with the character being a cryptic as he was, we still don't have any sort of 100% confirmation of any part of his origin.
Speaking of being cryptic, we never did really find out what exactly the Patriot entity had done with Speed. He seems to teleport Speed away and when Prodigy later kisses the entity, the entity is suddenly gone and replaced with Speed out of seemingly nowhere. Perhaps if the Patriot truly was a being that manipulated events to ensure the future, maybe Speed's presence during the mission against Mother would have changed the future so the Patriot teleported Speed away to ensure he would not be present until the mission was over...As to where Speed went, who knows?
We see the Patriot entity leak
energy from his costume after being attacked by demons in Marvel's
Voices Infinity Comic I#9 and we next see an empty Patriot costume on
Master Pandemonium's porch but we aren't really told what exactly
happened. It's unclear if the Patriot entity was destroyed by the
demons or if Master Pandemonium used the M'Kraan Crystal fragment to
banish to negate the existence of the Patriot entity. It's also
possible that the entity is just running around out there right now
without a costume on, as we know from his appearances in Young Avengers
II that without the costume, his body is completely invisible.
