Powers/Abilities: Onslaught
possesses the Omega-level mutant abilities of Magneto and Jean Grey,
granting him nearly limitless telepathic and telekinetic power.
Onslaught is capable of body possession, ranging from a single
individual to most of the Earth's population, and can remotely drain
the minds of others to enhance its own mental energy. Onslaught by
itself can travel between realities but not through time.
As a being of pure
thought whose body is a construct, Onslaught is completely impervious
to all kinds of physical attacks. However, the foundational
experiences
of its personalities made it empathetic to the pain of others: When
Earth-31974 was afflicted with forced immortality, Onslaught felt the
cries of pain of those who wished to die but could not and was
crippled
by it, severely limiting its abilities.
After bonding with
the Phoenix Force of reality-80777, Onslaught's power increased even
further, and it was now capable of time-travel. It was also able to
partition the Phoenix Force, leaving a small spark of it with its
former host.

History: (The Original X-Men#1 (fb)) - After Magneto killed Charles Xavier, Jean Grey used her powers to shut down his mind, creating Onslaught from their combined dark sides. Onslaught possessed Jean and used telepathy to sway both allies and foes to her side. It called itself "Phoenix" to deter the cosmic forces from challenging it before it could achieve godhood. Onslaught battled and defeated Thanos, Ultron and Annihlius, and turned its sight to other planets after subjugating Earth
(The Original X-Men#1) - Phoenix of Reality-80777 detected the danger of "Phoenix" and summoned the original X-Men of Earth-616 to deal with it. Marvel Girl-616 showed the teammates of her Earth-696 self that they were being mind-controlled, securing their loyalty. Together, they attacked Jean-696, who killed her Cyclops, at which point Onslaught abandoned her body and manifested its own. Attacked by the surviving X-Men, Onslaught began draining all human minds on the planet to transcend to a cosmic force. Marvel Girl-616 united them to resist Onslaught, starting a psychic chain reaction that would consume Earth with everyone on it. Freed from Onslaught, Jean Grey-696 joined the fight and sent the X-Men-616 back before destroying her Earth. Onslaught was weakened but survived, escaping elsewhere into the Multiverse.
(Weapon X-Men I#1) - Onslaught next targeted Earth-93068, a world recovering from a war with the Badoon. To avoid detection by the native Jean Grey, he did not hide in a single individual but rather infected most minds on the planet, with only one billion left uninfected. Phoenix-80777 sent a team of five Wolverines after Onslaught, and Jane Howlett-1281 managed to expose his presence. Onslaught extended an offer of alliance to Magneto and Jean Grey of Earth-93068 and killed them after they rejected it. To distract the Wolverines, Onslaught battled them, puppeting the bodies of thw versions of their friends. Phoenix-80777 helped the sorcerers evacuate everyone uninfected to a safe world through the Nexus of All Realities before destroying Earth-93068 to cauterize the infection.
(Weapon X-Men I#2) - Onslaught fled to Phoenix's home reality-80777, again scattering its mental signature to avoid detection. It shed its body and hid inside Nathaniel Summers, the son of Jean's clone Madelyne Pryor. Phoenix-80777 recruited Sorceress Supreme Magik and together with Wolverines to track Onslaught's body to the Savage Land but recognized it as a decoy. Magik attempted to astrally trace Onslaught but triggered a psychic trap that incapacitated her. Phoenix realized that Onslaught would be hiding inside someone close to her and rushed to her family, accusing Madelyne of hiding Onslaught. This left her blind to the real threat as Onslaught inside Nathan, who grabbed her and began siphoning the Phoenix Force from her. With others too distracted to make the hard choice, Earth-9997 Wolverine cut off Nathan's arm, severing Onslaught's connection to him. Onslaught fled to yet another universe, determined to stop hiding and realize the ultimate dreams of both Magneto and Jean Grey: making mutants immortal.
(Weapon X-Men I#3 (fb)) - On Earth-31974, Onslaught retrieved the Lifeline Tablet and found a spell to modify and expand its effects. However, his ritual was interfered with, and the Tablet was stolen, leaving everyone on Earth immortal but not invulnerable. Those near death were trapped in constant pain, from which Onslaught felt and suffered.
(Weapon X-Men I#3) - When the Wolverines followed its trail to Earth-31974, Onslaught revealed its presence to them and began to speak, but was hit by a bout of pain, which the Wolverines took as their chance to strike. Onslaught was impervious to their attacks and called for a truce, explaining its predicament and asking for their help. Jane Howlett set the terms: Onslaught was to never enter, harm, or interfere with any of their worlds, including Phoenix's Earth-80777. Onslaught agreed and provided a fragment of the Lifeline Stone for the Wolverines to track. They discovered that the Tablet had been stolen by Dracula, Selene, and Ulluxy'l Kwan Tae Syn, who desired undying prey upon which to feed, and destroyed it, breaking the spell. Onslaught honored his word but warned the Wolverines not to cross him again. It also secretly offered Logan-807128 to remove the others from its path in exchange for undoing him being tricked into killing his friends.
(Weapon X-Men I#4 (fb) - BTS) - Onslaught provided Old Man Logan with shackles and masks to restrain the others. The Wolverines traveled to Earth-72414, where Old Man Logan lured the others into a forested area and neutralized them one by one, while Onslaught blocked their mental attempts to summon Phoenix-80777.
(Weapon X-Men I#4) - Onslaught told Old Man Logan that it was time to send a psychic distress signal to Phoenix. She immediately arrived and faced Onslaught, only for Old Man Logan to stab her in the back. Onslaught presented the injured Jean with an ultimatum: give up the Phoenix Force voluntarily, or it would rip it from her, destroying another Earth in the process. Jean asked what made this world special, and Onslaught showed her that it was the one where she and her friends had found happiness in family. Left with no choice, Jean surrendered her Phoenix Force to Onslaught. The loving aspect of it transformed Onslaught, who became horrified by its actions, as was Old Man Logan's plan all along. Onslaught apologized for using his tragedy to manipulate him and offered to honor their bargain, but Logan declined, aware that traveling back in time would not save his friends but only create another timeline. Onslaught shed its armor and told Jean that the Phoenix Force wanted to explore the cosmos and the Multiverse; she told Onslaught to keep it. Onslaught left Jean with a spark of the Phoenix Force to traverse realities and return everyone home before departing on a new journey.

Despite the title of the series, the team of Wolverines is never referred to as "Weapon X-Men" by the narrative, solicitation synopses, or the recap pages.
