(Starlord#1) - Newlin greeted Sinjin Quarrel when Sinjin first arrived on Bovric to take up his Probiti assignment. Newlin inquired if Sinjin was in fact the Probiti of that name, then introduced himself, telling Sinjin he had been assigned to give him a ride to the city of Paka's Crossing in his hover vehicle and offering to take one of Sinjin's bags.

As Newlin loaded up the hover vehicle with Sinjin's luggage, Sinjin thanked Newlin (whom he addressed as "Mr. Newlin") for giving him a ride, explaining that he had been told he would probably have to find his own way to the city. Newlin asked to simply be called Newlin, while addressing Sinjin as "Probiti Quarrel." He explained that on Bovric they were happy to be assigned another Probiti and therefore felt obliged to assist him in settling in.

As they drove to the city, Sinjin spotted a palatial estate and commented there must be room for half the population of Bovric there. Newlin explained that it was Lawgiver Harith Damyish's private estate and warned Sinjin that he should try to stay out of his way. He said Damyish was a powerful man and didn't like Probiti even more than most Lawgivers didn't like Probiti. He added that it was widely believed on Bovric that Damyish was responsible for the accident that led to the death of the Probiti whom Sinjin was here to replace. He described Damyish as a "ruthless little snake" and said Damyish believed he owned the planet, advising Sinjin to watch himself.

(Starlord#1 - BTS) - Newlin dropped Sinjin off at his assigned quarters in Paka's Crossing.

(Starlord#1) - After Sinjin discovered the abandoned ship of the legendary Star-Lord (Peter Quill) in a nearby forest, he asked Newlin to do a search through official records for information on Star-Lord. Newlin reported that it had been about 12 years since Star-Lord had done anything noticeable and had dropped out of sight after that. Sinjin confirmed he had heard the same and thanked Newlin for checking. He asked Newlin if he could borrow some electronics diagnostic equipment for the afternoon, and Newlin agreed to lend him his old Prampton multi-read model. When Newlin asked what all this was about, Sinjin averred, explaining it was not his secret to tell, but suggested he might be able to discuss it at some later point.

(Starlord#1 - BTS) - Sinjin returned to the forest with Newlin's equipment.

(Starlord#1 - BTS) - Lawgiver Damyish was informed by Colonel Castonis that Sinjin was observed going into the forest with equipment he borrowed from Newlin, whose antipathy Damyish was well aware of and returned, considering Newlin to be a "small-minded man". Damyish told Castonis they would start looking into this matter by questioning Newlin.

(Starlord#1 (fb) - BTS) - Damyish had Newlin questioned and learned from him that Sinjin had been asking questions about Star-Lord.

Comments: Created by Timothy Zahn and Dan Lawlis.

We see and hear nothing of Newlin after Damyish makes the decision to interrogate him. Given his antipathy toward Damyish, and Damyish's demonstrated penchant for violence and cruelty, it is entirely possible that Damyish resorted to harsh methods to obtain his desired information. Newlin's current status is unrevealed.

Newlin previously had a sub-profile under the planet Bovric, originally published 02/26/2015.

This profile was completed 03/20/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary 's celebratory event.

Prampton multi-read

Newlin possessed an old model of this portable electronics diagnostic device, presumably used for repair or maintenance in his job as a spaceport mechanic. Sinjin attempted to use it in diagnosing problems with Star-Lord's Ship, but the advanced nature of the Ship's technology may have been beyond the scope of the equipment.
