History:
(Daredevil: Black Armor#1 (fb)) - When "Battlin' Jack" Murdock entered Fogwell's Gym, the boxing promoter Mick greeted and Murdock asked about a boxing match Mick had promised him but Mick lamented that he only had a training gig for an up-and-coming boxer named Marco Morales that he could offer Murdock. Mick insisted that training Marco was easy money and when Murdock replied back that he wanted a real fight, Mick reminded Murdock that he had a kid to feed and suggested he fight for what mattered. Murdock reluctantly accepted the gig and soon began training Marco Morales in boxing techniques. Marco practiced his punches as Murdock led the training session and when Marco glanced away from the ring, Murdock reminded Marco that boxing was a discipline that helped train how Marco would handle himself both in and out of the ring.

(Daredevil: Black Armor#2 (fb)) - Months later, Marco (now with a shaved head) was sparring against "Battlin' Jack" Murdock as Murdock's son Matt secretly watched from afar. Despite one of the other gym patrons, "Crusher" Hogan, spotting Matt, he continued watching Marco and his father, who reminded Marco to stay focused and that power came from the legs and hips, not just the arms.

(Daredevil: Black Armor#3 (fb)) - During one of his early boxing matches, Marco Morales sat in his corner with a bottled water as his corner man, "Battlin' Jack" Murdock explained why his corner man was so important, noting that the corner man protected the boxer when he couldn't protect himself and identified weaknesses and opportunities during the match. Unaware that Matt Murdock was sensing the match from the locker room, "Battlin' Jack" also reminded Marco that the fight could easily change in the corner between rounds.

(Daredevil: Black Armor#4 (fb)) - Marco sparred against "Battlin' Jack" Murdock as Matt Murdock imitated his father's instructions outside Fogwell's Gym. Inside, "Battlin' Jack" reminded Marco that the jab was the most important punch in boxing, as it defined one's range.

Thanks to Mike Castle for pointing out where Marco's last name was revealed! It was printed on his boxing gloves in Daredevil: Black Armor#2. I read the story three times and STILL missed it!

There was a victim of the Fixer mentioned in Daredevil: The Man without Fear I#1 named Morales whom the Fixer sent "Battlin' Jack" Murdock to collect from. He isn't seen, only mentioned. Given the Daredevil & "Battlin' Jack" Murdock connections, and the fact that the Fixer fixed boxing matches, I can't help but wonder if Marco Morales in Daredevil: Black Armor was meant to be this same Morales character from Daredevil: Man without Fear. If that Morales was mixed up with the Fixer, he could very well have been a boxer (which is what Marco Morales was). Perhaps Marco Morales once trained with Murdock then later got mixed up with the Fixer...? Until something connects the two or confirms for sure, I'm choosing to list them as two separate characters here but I really wonder if that was Chichester's intent by showing Murdock training Marco Morales in the flashbacks from Daredevil: Black Armor...and I would love to be able to update this profile to show them as one and the same...
Follow up from D.G. Chichester himself thanks to Appendix writer Mike Castle 7/12/2026: "No. While I picked up on some things to seed throughout the [Daredevil: Black Armor] book, that character wasn't something I was playing off. The fighter that Jack is training, 'Marco,' is just a coincidental name. The ref to Kingpin becoming Mayor, by comparison, was an intentional call forward."

CLARIFICATIONS:
Marco Morales
should be distinguished from:

Mick

Mick was a fight promoter operating out of Fogwell's Gym. He befriended Johnathan "Battlin' Jack" Murdock and attempted to help Murdock earn money to help Murdock raise his son. Unable to find Murdock boxing fights with prize money, Mick found Marco Morales, a young boxer who needed training, and instead suggested Murdock take a job training Marco. When Murdock admitted that he wanted a real fight, Mick suggested Murdock do what was best for his son and take the easy money.
