History:
(
Metaphysique II#1) - Within Dietrich Mater's virtual reality world, Mob and the rest of the Darketypes attacked Fort Knox after arriving in their giant spider-like ship.

Mob was annoyed when Paingame immediately indicated his intent to abandon the plan, but Screwloose asked why he even tried talking sense to her as she never listened anyway.

As they looted large amounts of gold, Mob asked how long before the Oneironauts showed up, and Paranorm told him that it all depended on when they were given their cues. Mob subsequently released multiple replicas of himself, which overwhelmed and battered numerous guards, while Screwloose took out many others. Paranorm subsequently instructed Mob and Screw that they needed to depart.

(Metaphysique II#1 - BTS) - Dr. Mater -- aided his computer artificial intelligence, Mandelbrot -- subsequently appeared the guards, who had been driven into nightmares by Screwloose, and gave them their lucidity cues, the names of their optimal dreaming forms. As a result, they transformed into their heroic Oneironauts form, after which Mater them that this session's plot appeared to be an adolescent scenario, where a powerful group called the Darketypes had raided Fort Know and that their task was presumably to recover the gold. When one of them questioned that recovering the gold seemed like such a materialistic goal, Mater advised them that matter at any level was in part a projection of the mind.

Mater continued that the gold may represent personal power and that the Darketypes might be shadow aspects of their personalities that were self-destructive and needed to be confronted. Finally reminding the Oneironauts that these lucidities didn't last forever, he urged them to continue the session immediately.mob-darketypes-metaphysique-voneironauts

(Metaphysique II#1) - Capital Eagle subsequently told Mob that they had never hauled in capital like that before, and when Mob asked if his Washington connections would be open to his plans now, Eagle replied that they could probably buy all of Congress. Paranorm then silenced them, advising the team that he had sensed that the Oneironauts had entered their world and sending Screwloose to confront them.

As Screwloose engaged the also super-swift Buzzword, the rest of the Oneironauts confronted the Darketypes. After Paranorm noted that their forces seemed evenly matched, Mob appreciated his point and replicated himself to vastly outnumber the Oneironauts. When one of Mob's counterparts downed Heartlink, Astral Kid suddenly grew to immense size and hurled off the numerous Mob duplicates. In response, however, Paranorm apparently merged with the many forms of Mob and the rest of the Darketypes to take the form of their ultimate fears, which proved to be Metaphysique.

Mortified by the monstrous Metaphysique, all of the Oneironauts faded out of the virtual reality and subsequently awakened in the real world.

Comments: Created by Norm Breyfogle under the creator-owned Bravura imprint under Malibu Comics Entertainment.

Dietrich Mater's AI Mandelbrot programmed what was going on the VR/dreamworld. This would mean that Mob and the rest of the Darketypes were crated by Mandelbrot as challenges for Mater's dream experiment volunteers. I'm not sure for which of the Oneironauts Mob may have been intended to be the counterpart.
If Mob was a creation of Mandelbrot in Mater's virtual reality world, then he didn't really exist in Reality-13492, but in the infinite Multiverse, there would be a reality that mirrors that virtual reality world...

Earth-13492 A psychic superhero in the 1960s, Metaphysique vanished until returning to confront the dream experiment volunteers in Dietrich Mater’s virtual reality dreamworld, where they took the form of super-heroic Oneironauts. Metaphysique #1 (1992); (Malibu) Metaphysique #1 (1995)

Earth-95421 Mirrored comic book-like virtual reality dreamworld scenario of Dietrich Mater and Mandelbrot. The criminal Darketypes (Capital Eagle, Kannon, Mob, Paingame, Paranorm, Power Mite, Screwloose, Thunderthigh) were opposed by the Oneironauts (Astral Kid, Buzzword, Crucible, Heartlink, Monomachy, Umbilicus). Metaphysique #1 (1995)

Courtesy of Loki, who suggested the Darketypes to represent Metaphysique:

Metaphysique started with two issues at Eclipse Comics, where the titular character was effectively a "horror host" introducing stories. The Malibu series shifts him to being the focal character (arguably not the protagonist) of the story. He was a psychic superhero in the 1960s (called by one character a "psychotic 60s sorcerer") who then vanished. Now in the modern day (i.e. the mid-90s) scientist Dietrich Mater is conducting dream experiments into psychic energies with a group of volunteers, who in this VR dreamworld take on the form of superheroes, only to be confronted by Metaphysique.
