History:

(Marvel Spotlight I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Many Moons was the venerated shaman of a Cheyenne tribe in the mid-1800's.

(Marvel Spotlight I#1 (fb)) - Many Moons told a young brave the old tales of the tribe, as well as of the wolf-spirit Owayodata, who had empowered the brave's ancestor Wildrun, the first Red Wolf and the mightiest warrior of all.

Many Moons explained to the young brave that he carried the blood of that early ancestor in his veins.

Many Moons told the young brave that some day he would be another Owayodata: "To you shall fall the task of protecting and leading your people -- and of keeping peace upon the plains."

(Marvel Spotlight I#1 (fb BTS)) - Many Moon's tribe was slaughtered by pony soldiers.

The brave was saved from death at the hands of Sgt. Hacker.

If he was still alive up to this point, Many Moons was likely slain in this assault.

Comments: Created by Gardner Fox and Syd Shores.

many_moons-19thc-whodat    Information from the original stories was somewhat contradictory in terms of the stories of Red Wolf/Johnny Wakely and Fort Rango. The official ruling was that Wakely's tribe was in New Mexico.

It's not clear to me whether the character seen in the image to the right with the young brave who would become Red Wolf was Many Moons or not. Clearly different than the ceremonial headdress appearance, but this may have been an active field uniform.
