History:
(Avengers I#1.5) - The US military's Major Bowman was inspecting Doctor Doom's Flying Fortress when he was surprised by Doctor Doom himself, who captured Bowman and kept him tied up within the Fortress while he sent a robot duplicate of Bowman to lure the heroic Avengers into a trap.

(Avengers I#1.5) - While the Avengers stormed Doctor Doom's Flying Fortress, Ant-Man came across the tied-up Major Bowman. Surprised, Ant-Man asked what Bowman was doing there and where the Wasp was, but a confused Bowman admitted he didn't know. As Ant-Man untied Bowman, Bowman pointed out that they were being sealed in the room, but Ant-Man proclaimed that Doctor Doom would not stop him or any other Avenger. When Bowman questioned whether the Avengers were there, a confused Ant-Man pointed out that "Bowman" had led the Avengers to the Fortress, at which point Bowman explained that he had never met Ant-Man before and that he had been a prisoner for hours after being captured by Doom. The robot Major Bowman then appeared on a video screen and confirmed the real Bowman's story before removing its rubbery face mask to reveal a robotic Doombot underneath. The gloating Doctor Doom then gassed the room, and when Bowman remarked that they were done for, Ant-Man asked Bowman to get down as he took a pill that caused him to grow to giant size, bursting through the ceiling. The two then escaped the room, with Major Bowman commending Ant-Man's transformation into Giant-Man as one of the most astounding things he had ever seen. Giant-Man then rescued the Hulk, and Bowman followed them both to rescue Thor and Iron Man. Hulk, Thor and Iron Man soon confronted Doctor Doom, and the Hulk ripped Doom's head off, revealing another robot, as Major Bowman, Giant-Man and the newly-rescued Wasp arrived to regroup. With Doom defeated, the Flying Fortress began to scuttle and the Avengers soon found an escape pod that they ordered Major Bowman into. Bowman refused, insisting that he had a duty yet to complete aboard the Flying Fortress, but the Hulk shoved Bowman into the escape pod and launched it as the Avengers leaped from the sinking Fortress.
