History:
(2-Gun Western I#4/4) - On March 28, 1875 at midnight, Warren Mace accompanied Nat Kruger in robbing the Los Murallos bank, stealing $20,000. As they got away with the money, Warren complained that Kruger had shot the watchman when he didn't have to, but Kruger angrily replied that he didn't have to aswer to Mace. The two men rode out of Los Murallos.
The two men rode well into the night until they came across a ranch-house and stopped there, receiving dinner from the friendly rancher who lived there. Warren was grateful to be fed but Nat remained surly and ungrateful. When Warren asked if Nat couldn't at least be polite to a man who fed him, Nat angrily slapped Warren out of his chair. As the rancher had heard Nat's name, Nat wanted to kill him but Warren interceded to defend the rancher.
Just then, Nat caught sight of a posse coming over the hill in pursuit of him and Warren. Warren decided to give himself up and advised Nat to do the same but Nat refused. Nat still intended to shoot the rancher but Warren drew his gun on Nat and threatened to shoot him if he did. Nat fled from the ranch-house. When the posse arrived, Warren surrendered to them. The rancher vouched for Warren's good character, telling the sheriff how Warren had saved his life. Another member of the posse opined that Mace wasn't a hardened criminal, just "unlucky" to have Nat for a friend. Warren was glad he'd surrendered and hoped he could get a clean start in life. The rancher then showed Warren Nat had fled into a swamp and sunk to his death in quicksand.
