LURE
Real Name: Kay Glayvor
Identity/Class: Extraterrestrial (Vassyr) mutate (Enhanced)
Occupation: Warrior, hunter;
former laborer on Isambard
Group Membership: Enhanced (Gun Runner/Brell, Heavy Duty/Glora Teth, Oracle, Smith; others deceased and unidentified);
Affiliations: Gale Patric, Gyre
Enemies: The Cynodd (notably Shakata, Dog Soldiers), Foreman Gekedorn and the deputation at Isambard, the Zoo (Ballistik, Blitz, Laz-Fire, Payload, Warcrime);
Known Relatives: None
Aliases: Worker Glayvor
Genetic coding (presumably via
Gena-Sys): GP80104E
Base of Operations: Unrevealed;
at least formerly the Warbird;
formerly the Isambard facteroid;
formerly Vassyr
First Appearance: Gun Runner#2 (November, 1993);
Gun Runner#4
(January, 1994)
Powers/Abilities: Lure is a genius aeronautical engineer with an expert knowledge of birds and natural flight.
Lure's
primary weapon is his (was?) cyberdrone, Gyre,
whom he can direct cyber-empathically and whom he can through whom he
can at least see to sense events. Damage to Gyre is agonizing to Lure.
Gyre can fly at great speeds, turning swiftly and sharply, and its wings are hard and sharp enough to decapitate or dismember beings in its path. Similarly, it's beak is sharp enough and its frame sturdy enough to penetrate the chest of an adult humanoid.
It is unrevealed whether Lure's Enhanced nature or just his own knowledge and technology capacity is what allowed him to construct and control Gyre.
Lure is proficient at hand-to-hand combat, able to take at multiple (four) combatants in short order. He may or may not have superhuman agility, speed, senses, strength, durability, etc.
He also carries and is experienced with
a two-handed blaster weapon.
Lure is by nature a loner and a
malcontent, although he is certainly willing to risk his own life for
his allies.
Height:
Unrevealed (approximately 6')
Weight: Unrevealed (approximately 200 lbs.)
Eyes: Both seen as light red or green irides with a vertical slit
pupil and no visible sclera
Hair: Red-orange
History:
(Gun Runner#5 (fb) - BTS) -
Recognizing the Cynodd's threat, the Vassyran race sought to prevent
them
from activating a network of conditioned Synergysts across the galaxy,
which would turn all creation into a stolid, ordered, universal
machine.
(Gun Runner#1 (fb) - BTS / Gun Runner#2 (fb) - BTS) - The Vassyr created the Enhanced race of warriors to end forever the mystical threat of the Cynodd and expunge their evil.
(Gun Runner#2 (fb) - BTS) - Those who would become the Enhanced had their innate skills and talents genetically amplified by Vassyr technology into lethal fighting skills. Amongst the Enhanced were Gun Runner, Heavy Duty, Lure, and Smith.
(Gun Runner#4 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, Lure constructed the
cyber-empathic attack drone/falcon known as Gyre.
(Gun Runner#5 (fb) - BTS) - The Enhanced encountered a syntropic wasteland on Caveor Prime.
(Gun Runner#1 (fb)) - Lure and the
Enhanced battled the Cynodd on an unspecified world; the Cynodd's guns
stunk of plasma.
(Gun Runner#6 (fb) - BTS) - At some point (or possibly on multiple
occasions), Lure visited the Pleasure Mazes of Cyntros Seven.
(Gun Runner#2 (fb) - BTS) - After a long and bloody war, the Enhanced defeated the Cynodd, destroying their armies and machines, and incarcerating their leaders. Gun Runner personally slew Shakata. The Enhanced believed the conflict to be over.
(Gun Runner#4 (fb) - BTS) - When the Enhanced were ordered to return to
Vassyra to witness the armistice and to join in the revels, Heavy Duty,
Lure, and Smith all departed the Warbird en route, not considering
there to be anything worth celebrating.
(Gun Runner#2 (fb) - BTS / Gun Runner#3 (fb) - BTS) <203 years ago> - As Gun Runner was returning to Vassyra aboard his Warbird ship, an unidentified event incapacitated Warbird/Oracle and Gun Runner, leaving the former drifting and dysfunctional.
(Gun Runner#5 (fb) - BTS) <100 years ago> - The Cynodd burned Vassyra. At some point, Lure learned of this.

(Gun Runner#5) - After Lure clarified that the Cynodd had burned
Vassyra a century ago and apologized for having to be the one to tell
him, Glora warned the others of a large group of
approaching Cynodd Dog-Soldiers. Lure joined his fellow Enhanced in
attacking, sending Gyre to slice through their ranks.
After Gun Runner's tactical noted
300 troops in
their vicinity, Gayle Patric (a human ally Gun Runner had recruited on
Earth) and Oracle (another Enhanced who was bonded to the Warbird)
directed the group to a
location from which the Warbird could pick them up. Picking up on their
plan, Lure directed Gun Runner and Smith to open up a nearby bulkhead
while he and Heavy Duty gave them covering fire. The Enhanced quartet
subsequently passed through the opening, falling into a ventilation
shaft, but Oracle had the Warbird form a rider beam to catch them,
after which they departed Isambard aboard the Warbird.
Lure subsequently urged that they travel
to Earth to destroy Shakata and the Cynodd, and Smith supported this
notion, but
Glora and Brell voted to first seek out other Enhanced. When Gale
collapsed, Lure initially dismissed the human "kid" until Oracle
informed him that Gale had conceived the plan that saved them on
Isambard.
After they discovered that Gale
was suffering thusly because the
Cynodd had unleashed a Synergist on Earth, all of the Enhanced agreed
to stop
that threat. As they approached Earth, Gun Runner advised the others
that their target was the Synergist, and Lure asked if Gun Runner had
forgotten how hard it was to hit a syntropic target. Gun Runner
countered, asking Lure if he had forgotten that this was what they had
been created to do.
After they had donned their syntropic armor,
Oracle transported Lure and the other four Enhanced to within the region
of Syntropy (in what was
normally Las Vegas, Nevada), unaware that the Zoo was already in there
and was watching them.
(Gun Runner#6) -
On Earth, the Enhanced wandered the colorless void until
Heavy Duty identified the
syntropic source six spans ahead of them, at which point the Zoo
attacked them. As Heavy Duty fired on the Zoo, Lure encouraged her to
fry them good, but she told him to do his job and she would do hers.
Lure sent Gyre after them, and while Ballistik evaded, Blitz was
wounded.
Lure was soon after blasted by
Ballistik, after which Heavy Duty swatted Ballistik back, noting "If anyone's going to kill that little
runt, it's me!"
When Lure thanked her for the kind words, she told him to shut up
before noting that they were right over the source of the syntropy,
which was forty spans below them. She then blasted a hole in the shell
via a tri-thermex mine.
Lure subsequently joined the others
in dropping down through this hole, with the Zoo
in close pursuit. As Heavy Duty
used her handheld tracker to navigate the
growing maze surrounding the Synergist, Lure noted how this always
reminded him of the Pleasure Mazes on Cyntros Seven. Heavy
Duty
silenced him, just before the Zoo ambushed them and
Ballistik blasted and destroyed the tracker. Lure advised Smith to
take Blitz (whom he subsequently slew) while he tackled Laz-Fire;
however, Laz-Fire instead set Lure aflame, causing him to collapse in
agony atop the pathway they were on. Heavy Duty slew Laz-Fire before
she could finish off Lure, but then Ballistik blasted Heavy Duty,
dropping her to her knees as well. Without her tracker, Heavy Duty
advised Lure to send Gyre to follow the path to the Synergist, which he
did, sending Gyre on a direct path through Ballistik's chest, slaying
her as well.
Although neither he nor Lure
were in any condition for further combat, Gyre continued the journey,
despite Syntropy clouding Lure's empathic link with her. As Gyre
reached the Synergist, Lure transfered the coordinates of Gyre's route
to Gun Runner's visor...
(Gun Runner#6 - BTS) - Something (presumably Shakata but possibly the
Synergist or something else) destroyed Gyre.
(Gun Runner#6) - Agonized by Gyre's destruction,
the empathic shock of which nearly fried his mind, Lure was nonetheless
pleased that Gun Runner had received the coordinates. Gun Runner
instructed Smith to stay with Lure and Heavy Duty while he went to
confront the Synergist.
(Gun Runner#6 - BTS) -
Disobeying Brell's order, Smith was fortunately on hand to slay Shakata
when he was on the verge of killing Gun Runner.
Gun Runner's weapons systems
ultimately finished off
the Synergyst, which erased the syntropic effect.
Lure was not
seen again.
(Gun Runner#6 - BTS / All-New Official Handbook of
the Marvel Universe A to Z: Update#2) -
With the Earth restored to normal, Brell allowed Gale to join the
Enhanced in their mission
...and they apparently
departed Earth aboard the Warbird.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Lure should be distinguished from:
![]() Gyre is a
smart-metal cyberdrone in the form of a bird of prey who
obeys Lure's empathic commands with the lethal precision of a
hawk.Gyre is composed of a smart polyalloy and is loyal as blood-kin. Gyre can fly at great speeds, turning swiftly and sharply, and its wings are hard and sharp enough to decapitate or dismember beings in its path. Similarly, it's beak is sharp enough and its frame sturdy enough to penetrate the chest of an adult humanoid. Gyre can even slice through rock or metal structures such as the supports for a large bridge. At Lure's command, Gyre will swiftly fly at/into enemy targets, accruing massive damage in short order. (Gun Runner#4) - After being fired from the worker crew on Isambard, Lure summoned Gyre, noting that he never did like that neighborhood much. Confronted by a group of Cynodd Dog-Soldiers, Lure unleashed Gyre, who flew through their ranks, decapitating and dismembering a number of them via a series of tight high-speed turns. Lure then took off in the opposite direction, using Gyre and a hand-blaster to take out a trio of Dog-Soldiers who blocked their path. As they fled across a bridge, Lure had Gyre fly down and cut through the supports of the bridge behind them, causing it to collapse and cause the Dog-Soldiers to presumably fall to their deaths. As Gyre returned to Lure's gauntlet, Lure was reunited with his old Enhanced allies. (Gun Runner#5) - Challenged by another group of
Cynodd Dog-Soldiers. Lure joined his fellow Enhanced in
attacking,
sending Gyre to slice through their ranks. (Gun Runner#6 - BTS) - Gyre continued the journey, despite Syntropy clouding Lure's empathic link with Gyre. As Gyre reached the Synergist, Lure transfered the coordinates of Gyre's route to Gun Runner's visor... Something (presumably Shakata but possibly the Synergist or something else) destroyed Gyre. --Gun Runner#4 Note: While Lure and Gyre shared a strong bond, I don't know what would prevent Gyre from creating another cyberdrone companion/weapon. Gyre refers to a circular or spiral motion or form, especially a giant circular ocean surface current. Gyre could be expanded to a full entry, but for now... |
