logan-87285-standobHistory:
(
Red Prophet: Tales of Alvin Maker#4 (fb) - BTS) - "Logan" was put in a jail cell for people imprisoned under the order of William Harrison.

(Red Prophet: Tales of Alvin Maker#4) - "Logan" was in the cell with two other unidentified men when Hooch Palmer was brought in.

Hooch quietly used his knack to create a spark and send it into Harrison's house. logan-87285-standpost

As people outside shouted "fire!" "Logan" and the other prisoners rose to their feet, while Hooch secretly created another spark within the lock of the prison cell.

Regardless, a guard soon arrived and let the other prisoners out, as the sergeant had told them they needed help with the fire brigade.

(Red Prophet: Tales of Alvin Maker#4 (fb) - BTS) - As Hooch headed for the door, the guard shoved him back and slammed the door. Hooch turned up the heat on his spark so that the key burned the guard's hand when he tried to lock the cell door. After the guard fell back, Hooch kicked open the door, breaking the guard's neck, before heading back to his ship. However, he was met there by Harrison's back-up plan, Mike Fink, who fatally strangled him.

Harrison's wife and children died in the fire, but he escaped.

The subsequent fate of "Logan" is unrevealed...

Comments: Created by Roland Bernard Brown and Miguel Montenegro.

Red Prophet is the second novel in the Alvin Maker series; for some reason Dabel never bothered adapting the first, Seventh Son. There are currently six books in the run, with another apparently due out next year after a gap of 23 years since the last one. It's alternate history, set in the American frontier in a world where magic is real and different nationalities/ethnicities have different magical specialties. North America is divided between several rival colonial powers as well as some Native nations.
Fictional characters are mixed in with dramatically different histories than in the real world or Earth-616, I didn't realize that Governor Harrison was the counter part of President William Henry Harrison until a few books in. "Old Hickory" was familiar to me since we had visited the Andrew Jackson museum in Nashville a couple years before writing this profile.

The character in this profile wasn't named, nor was any history given about him, but he was clearly intended to homage Wolverine, James Howlett, aka Logan.
Based on the real world characters present in the story, I would estimate this to be early 19th Century, and since he was an adult and not in costume, Logan seemed like the most likely alias he would be going with at that time, but who knows?
Did he have any knacks, like a few other white men in the story, notably Hooch Palmer who could cause spontaneous combustion?
Perhaps he could use his knack for enhanced healing and/or enhanced senses. I haven't read anything in this reality beyond the Red Prophet adaptation, but I don't recall anyone with physical mutations, like bone claws, but who knows?

Thanks to Loki for recommending this character for me to cover the Red Prophet series. I enjoyed reading the whole series, but Logan was definitely much easier to cover than anyone else in the series.

This profile was completed 01/04/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary 's celebratory event.
