First Appearance: 2099 Unlimited#10/2 (October, 1995)

Powers/Abilities: Machina Jones is a cyborg.
She has a human face, including eyes, nose and mouth, and likely a human brain, but the rest of her body seems to be covered with or composed of mechanical parts.
She may or may not have some or all of her internal organs contained within a mechanical frame.

She is apparently superhumanly strong (perhaps enhanced human, lifting 1000 - 1500 lbs. (although she did not do much in the way of feats of strength in her limited appearances) and durable, although she is still subject to incapacitation by a neural taser.
With effort, she can reboot her systems and send them into overdrive, apparently using programming to enhance her combat skills.

She possesses an imager that grants her telescopic vision and is presumably tied into her body's aiming, allowing her to use her fifle to hit targets from a significant distance.

She has a credit swipe slot in her wrist to rapidly achieve/confirm payment.

She carries an energy rifle with which she is a skilled markswoman.

Machina can have wetware additions to her systems as needed.

History:

(2099 Unlimited#10/2 (fb) - BTS) - Gojiro talked Machina into putting down credit for a new imager.

(2099 Unlimited#10/2 (fb) - BTS) - Machina Jones was paid by "Mr. Smith" to meet Richard Welk, a biotech at Squidco, at midnight. As per her preference, she did not know anything more about him or the meeting than that.

(2099 Unlimited#10/2) - Machina met with Welk and introduced herself. She asked him if he was sure he had not been followed, and he confirmed his certainty about a second before he was shot by a Squidco assassin. Using her new imager, Machina glimpsed and shot the shooter, after which she realized that the shooter was a Puppet Masters Inc. meat puppet (a person who had sold her body to Puppet Masters Inc. to pay off her debts and was thus programmable to whomever Puppet Masters Inc. rented her).

After "monkeywrenching" the would-be assassin with a cable that rendered her inert so she couldn't try to kill her again, Machina contacted her associate Ricky. He transported them both to Pagoda General, the city's most notorious blackmarket hospital, staffed by the Kabuki Medicos, a gang of criminal bio-techs, where she paid Gojiro to re-wire her would-be killer so that Puppet Masters could not control her again.

Machina subsequently met with Mr. Smith, taking his payment before allowing him to open the package Welk had carried, which contained Mr. Fizzi, a corporate trademark/spokesclone developed at Squidco by Welk via a special genetic engineering program. Mr. Fizzi was terrified of "Mr. Smith," noting that he had hurt Fizzi before and that his name wasn't Smith but Abelard. jones-machina-928-2099ad-kick

Holding Machina at gunpoint, Abelard confirmed that he was employed by Squidco, and that he had manipulated Welk, who had used his own genetic material in creating Fizzi, to try to smuggle Fizzi out by telling him that Squidco was scrubbing the trademark project and disposing of its specimens. Abelard further confirmed that he had also hired the assassin to kill both Welk and Machina, explaining that he had arranged this entire crisis as the means to demonstrate his true worth to Squico's board of directors.

After Abelard noted his plan to use insulin to brain damage Fizzi to eliminate the intelligence boosts Welk had given it as well as his plans to execute Machina, she caught him off guard and took away his gun. However, he then used a neural taser to incapacitate her, after which he recovered his gun. Engaging her overdrive wetware, Machina prevented her systems from shutting down and rebooted herself, after which she kicked Abelard through a window, and he fell to his apparent death.

Despite Fizzi's great monetary value, Machina apparently adopted him, and she also apparently took Abelard's sports car.

Comments: Created by Nancy Collins and Gary Erskine.

Machina Jones' fate in the apparently merged reality of Earth-2099 will likely remain unrevealed.
