History:
(Black Knight Comics#1/1) - Mordred's lickspittle Hawkes and two other
men invaded Merlin's supply chamber to stop his scheme against their
master. Though Hawkes' axe had no problem breaking the door it was no
match against the Black Knight's sword. Hawkes and his men were swiftly
defeated by the Black Knight.
(Black Knight Comics#2/2) - Hawkes led Mordred to a soothsayer selling a deadly poison. Mordred later sent Hawkes to tell the man Mordred had placed as King Arthur's squire to cut the girth of the Arthur's saddle to make it easier for Mordred to scratch Arthur with the poisoned tip of his lance in jousting.
After losing in jousting to the Black Knight Mordred ordered Hawkes to gather their men and delay the Black Knight's return to his quarter so they could then search all the knights' rooms to learn who the Black Knight really was. Mordred and Hawkes were at first surprised when they couldn't find Sir Percy in his room and even considered for a mere moment that he could be the Black Knight, but Sir Percy, who actually was the Black Knight, had secretly entered the room through a trap door under his table and claimed that he was hiding there all along because he got frightened by the sounds of combat.
(Black Knight Comics#2/4) - Mordred sent Hawkes to the camp of the Normans to tell Sir Robert De Quincy to attack Camelot now while King Arthur was away. Mordred planned to lead the palace guard and surrender to the Normans because he had already made a deal with them that he would end up on the throne in the end. The plan worked until it didn't because of the Black Knight and the returning King Arthur.
(Black Knight Comics#3/1) - On Mordred's order Hawkes approached Guy of Gascombe to tell him that he and his men should concentrate on the Black Knight during the final fight during a tournament because the winner would win riches and people at the court wanted to see the Black Knight humbled. Hawkes then returned to Mordred to tell him that Guy would do their bidding. Mordred hoped the Black Knight would get injured and he would get the chance to whip of his helmet and reveal his true identity, but the Black Knight got away on his horse with a mere shoulder injury. Mordred sent Hawkes and his men after him, but Merlin used magic mists to confuse them and bring the Black Knight to safety.
Hawkes returned to Mordred with excuses that they were unable to catch the Black Knight due to Merlin's sorcery. Mordred wasn't too mad because he knew that even Merlin would not be able to heal Black Knight's injury in a day and later in the great hall ordered Hawkes to circle the room and bump against each knight's left shoulder because whoever winced in pain was the Black Knight. Mordred didn't even consider Sir Percy, but Hawkes accidentally bumped against him as well and Sir Percy dropped his goblet due to his injured shoulder. Mordred gathered his men to confront Sir Percy, but Merlin posed as the Black Knight to successfully throw them off their suspicion.

Great art, but no consistency! Hawkes looked like a completely different character in each appearance. If Mordred had not identified him by name I would not have known that it was the same man. And maybe it wasn't and Mordred just had multiple underlings named Hawkes.
I've got another one. We learned during Captain Britain
and MI13 that the reason Alistaire Stuart's looks had been shifting
dramatically between stories was because Morgan
Le Fay had put a curse on him. Maybe he wasn't the first person
she did that to. Perhaps Hawkes somehow annoyed her, and so she
decided to amuse herself at his expense.
