(Marvel Graphic Novel No. 17: Revenge of the Living Monolith (fb)) <35 years before the main story; see comments> - In Al Jizah, Hassan and his friends mocked and bullied the smaller and possibly younger Ahmet Abdol, as he dressed up as royalty and pretended to be descended from the Heliopolitan/Egyptian gods.

(Marvel Graphic Novel No. 17: Revenge of the Living Monolith (fb)) <35 years before the main story; see comments> - As Ahmet (who may have been 8-12-years-old) told his friends or, at least, the other kids who would listen to him (including Filene), that he was the son of the gods and the ruler of all Egypt and that they would be treated fairly and well under his reign, Hassan (who looked to be perhaps 12-16-years-old) mockingly told them, "What they be treated to is the babblings of a fool!"

Ahmet was upset to see the bullies, and Filene told him to pay them no mind, but Hassan asked what mind had he to pay, adding "everyone knows that 'crazy Abdol" is as mad as a jackal."

Filene told Hassan that he and they were all just playing, but Hassan countered that Abdol truly thought he would one day be the king of the Earth. As he hurled mud into Ahmet's face, Hassan suggested that they should give him that earth now; some of Hassan's friends apparently followed his lead and hurled mud at Ahmet.

Hassan and his friends laughed before leaving, and Filene comforted Ahmet; although crying, Ahmet assured her that they did not hurt him.

(Marvel Graphic Novel No. 17: Revenge of the Living Monolith (fb) - BTS) - Decades later, Abdol -- now the powerful mutant known alternately as the Living Pharaoh and Living Monolith -- was incarcerated in Massad maximum security prison in Central Egypt, where his hands were contained in electronic shackles preventing him from unleashing his power.Hassan was one of the guards overseeing him. The shackles, however, did not prevent Abdol from focusing his power to slowly erode the metal of the shackles. hassan-livmonolith-guard-blasted

Abdol somehow instructed the Cult of the Living Pharaoh to hover in their vehicles just beyond the horizon, behind clouds, waiting for a sign that his bid for freedom had begun.

(Marvel Graphic Novel No. 17: Revenge of the Living Monolith) - Abdol awakened from a dream of his origins in prison, noting to Hassan that it was the irony of ironies (as he clearly did not understand the meaning of the word irony) that he should be chosen as his jailer, and that the golds must truly be angry. Hassan told Abdol that he had always been a dreamer, but that he himself had taken the road to real power, authority. "That's why I'm out here, an' you're in there."

Abdol retorted that Hassan prattled of power, while he (Abdol) possessed a might that most men could not even imagine. Abdol then revealed he had been slowly weakening the shackles. Tearing free of the shackles and thus freed from their restricting his power, Abdol smashed Hassan through a set of bars and into a wall with an energy blast, presumably killing him.

(Marvel Graphic Novel No. 17: Revenge of the Living Monolith (fb) - BTS) - Abdol subsequently escaped the prison with the aid of his cultists.

Comments: Created by David Michelinie and Marc Silvestri.

The flashbacks in Marvel Graphic Novel No. 17: Revenge of the Living Monolith had real time years in them, but the dates are topical and in reference actually to how long before the main story they took place. With a publication date of 1985, a flashback dated 1950 simply means it took place 35 years before the main story. He looks like he's maybe eight years old in that flashback, which would mean he would be around 43 years old in the main story.

While there weren't any translation symbols/notes in the interactions between Abdol and Hassan, it is

Bummer that Hassan's last name was not revealed in the stories.
