History:

(The Marvels#6 (fb) - BTS) - As local legend stated that evil beings hovered off the Earth looking for spirits to take and that real names attracted them, Lotus kept her real name secret, and she similarly did so with Hana/Blossom.

(The Marvels#6 (fb)) - Around the time of the Vietnam War, when Lotus had her two sons, Hana may or may not have been the woman helping to care for them. hana-lotus-m6-strang

Hana was very likely present when Lotus and her associates met with Dr. Carlo Strang.

(The Marvels#6 (fb) - BTS) - Around the time of the Sin-Cong War, within Lotus' castle/home, Hana discovered a set of stairs in the basement -- when both she and Lotus knew that the stairs had not been there before. At the bottom the stairs, Hana discovered a set of immense doors.

(The Marvels#6 (fb)) - Acknowledging that they had not been there before, Hana led Lotus down the stairs to the immense doors. hana-lotus-m6-doors

(The Marvels#9 (fb)) - During what they called the War against the World, but what outsiders had called the Sin-Cong War, Hana dwelled in the hidden encampment with Lotus.

Hana was present when Lotus learned of Strang's conflict with and defeat by Iron Man (Tony Stark).

Hana appreciated that Lotus wished to move forward but had begun to doubt the allegiance of her inner circle. These were not those she'd begun her efforts with, and Hana speculated that perhaps long-time exposure to her mental powers had weakened their effect.

As Lotus met with her sons, discussing delaying tactics via Genosha and/or Latveria, Hana silently observed, apparently saddened that they had greater standing with Lotus than she did.

As the war escalated, Hana appreciated that those present felt increasing distortion effects from the Dragonbloom and the power from beyond the doors beneath Lotus' temple. Observing as Lotus absorbed the power from beyond the doors and wondered why Hana could sense the power before she could, Hana considered that perhaps it had been to dangerous for Lotus to sense. Beyond the power and the anger that Lotus sensed, Hana also felt deep sadness and fear, and whatever slumbered beyond those doors left her profoundly uneasy. Hana further sensed that whatever it was dreamed of their world and she knew, in some way that she could not voice, that it could be the end of them all.

When Lotus asked Hana to go through the doors to see if she could sense anything more beyond them than Lotus did, Hana could not bring herself to do so. When Lotus went through the doors, she found greater power, allowing her to take the wounded and enemy prisoners and reshape them into zombie-like warriors the would fight for her tirelessly, unthinkingly, brutally. While Lotus was delighted, Hana worried what kind of power could do such a thing, and what would it be like if she awakened it fully.

The war reached a breaking point when peace talks in Madripoor were disrupted by battling American and Russian super-powered warriors, a conflict that resulted in the deaths of both of Lotus' sons. Enraged, Lotus ignored Hana's advice to rest and think, and she threw open the doors beneath her temple, drew the power into her and cast it out into Sin-Cong. Lotus power caused massive, hurricane-like devastation and further caused the outsiders present to forget why they were there and to depart.

Hana helped Lotus back to her bed as Lotus plotted to avenge her sons and to return to the USA and poison their people with drugs.

(The Marvels#9 (fb) - BTS) - Per her own notation, Hana had seen much in her many decades on Earth.

(The Marvels#6) - When Lotus awakened and called out after a dream involving past conflicts with various heroes and soldiers, Hana rushed in to check on her. After Lotus confirmed that she was well, Lotus suggested some calming tea, which she then served for her, calling her mistress and telling her to rest well. Lotus thanked her and drank the tea.

(The Marvels#9) - Hana observed from a distance as Lotus and her forces battled the heroes, noting "My lady, Hasu -- 'Lady Lotus,' they called her -- had challenged the Americans, lashing back at them. And they, true to their nature, had responded. I think they are Americans, in any case, most of them. But they blur together, in my mind, just as events seem to blur together." She found herself think back to an earlier time of violence, the War against the World.hana-lotus-m12-face

As Lotus' enemies opened the doors and passed into the realm beyond, Lotus noted that she had always followed Lotus faithfully. However, she also considered that Lotus sought power for herself and that her heart belonged to her lost sons. She tearfully thought "You say what you do is for your people. For women. Is it, mother? Is it really?"

(The Marvels#10) - After the doors slammed shut again, Lady Lotus angrily and futilely commanded the doors to re-open. As she expressed her frustration, Hana suggested some calming tea. Calling her a fool, Lotus told Hana that she did not need to be calm but rather needed to know what what was going on beyond the doors.

(The Marvels#11) - Hana was by Lotus' side as the doors flung open and the heroes who had previously passed through the doors returned through them into the temple. She watched as the ground shook and Shan-K'ang/Siancong, the power behind the Dragonbloom and Sin-Cong/Siancong, emerged through the doors as well, asking for help. As the energies apparently created holes in the ground through which Lotus' agents fell, Hana called to her lady, but Lotus told her, "Run, Hana! Run, you old fool!" As they fled, Lotus continued, "If that -- creature is what I think it is --"

hana-lotus-m12-struckdown(The Marvels#12) - After the heroes forced the doors closed, containing the Kaaraga ho destroyed the world from which they had come, Siancong screamed in agony. Hana sensed that Siancong was in such pain, and she wondered how anyone could endure it. she further appreciated and she told her Lady Lotus that Siancong had begun to reabsorb her power, disintegrating the dome Lotus had created.

As Storm, Aarkus the Vision and Aero calmed Siancong, assuring her that the gates were closed and that she was safe, Lotus considered the the power she had been seeking all of these decades was now here in the open, and it would be all hers. Hana futilely tried to counter such thoughts.

Soon after, however, Lotus realized that the being Siancong was withdrawing all of her power from the land back into herself, and the land began to contract as well.

(The Marvels#12 - BTS) - The heroes who had gathered outside of the dome prepared to save the people of Siancong, while the heroes confronting Lotus would deal her and the cause of the nation's contractions.

(The Marvels#12) - Refusing to stand for this, Lotus attacked the Siancong being, shocking Hana and insisting that the being's power was hers by right of birth, mastery and conquest, and that the being Siancong was her slave.

As Lotus forged the power into chains around Siancong, Hana exhorted her to remember that she had fought against those that would enslave nations and women: "You have said so! You must not --"

Casually striking Hana down and cursing her an "aged fool," Lotus argued that she deserved this power and had been seeking it for over a century, "And I'll have hana-lotus-m12-crawlingit -- no matter who stands in my way!" Crawling and apparently bleeding from her mouth, Hana futilely and faintly cried out, "M-my lady...m-mother..."

As Lotus began to drain Siancong's power, Aarkus appreciated that Lotus and Siancong's powers were too intertwined, such that if they harmed one, the other may be killed.

However, Kevin Schumer of the group of heroes then struck Lotus with a sedative via a quill-launcher from the Porcupine's armor that he obtained, diffusing that situation.

(The Marvels#12 - BTS) - The enigmatic Threadneedle subsequently appeared before the being Siancong, explaining to her that she could leave behind a little of her power for the Marvels to safeguard, which would allow the land and the people within it to survive...and to let her true self flow through the power here instead of being warped by others. Siancong did so, forming energy bubbles to protect the people until the heroes could get to them. Threadneedle then took Siancong away to rest and heal, and the nations' tremors slowed, softened and stopped.

I don't believe Hana was seen again, but she likely followed Lotus into custody; however, she may have had enough of her mother's betrayals and hypocrisy and abandoned her...

Comments: Created by Kurt Busiek and Yildiray Cinar.

Much of The Marvels#9 was narration by Hana. However, I have chosen not to include her entire narration, but only what related specifically to Hana.

Lotus claimed to be a liberating force for women, but she kept Hana in the background, using her as a servant and never acknowledging her as her daughter. Hana usually addressed Lotus as mistress, but she occasionally quietly called her mother (mostly when talking to herself).

We don't know when Hana was born. I would assume it was some time after Lotus came to Sin-Cong. Therefore, neither of the two women shown in he background after Lotus and her allies began to grow the Dragonsbloom in great quantities, which would presumably only be a few years after Lotus' arrival, is likely to be Hana.
I also don't know if the woman seen with Lotus and her sons is Hana...Hana was already gray-haired when Lotus met with her sons during the Sin-Cong War.hana-lotus-m6-maybenot
