Powers/Abilities: Officer Garrett has some experience and training in armed (primarily a handgun) and unarmed combat.
However, after a mental adjustment from Postman, he could not even recall what a gun was.
He may or may not have regained those
specific memories over time.
History:
(Morlocks I#1 (fb) - BTS) -
Chicago Police Department Officer Garrett felt that much of his career
had been answering "dog calls" (false alarms).
(Morlocks I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Officers Garrett and Phipps were called to investigate reports of a disturbance on the south side of Chicago.
(Morlocks I#1) - As they arrived on the scene, both Garrett and Phipps suggested that it was likely a false alarm. After Garrett noted that his whole career had been answering "dog calls," Phipps replied that Chicago was noisy and people imagined the worst upon hearing some noise. When Phipps subsequently shared that Chicago was not called "The Windy City" because of the chill coming off the lake, but because of the hot air coming from the politicians, Garrett replied, "Funny. But it's nothin' compared to my ex-wife."
Heading toward the store while Phipps waited in the car, Garrett mumbled
to himself, "Woman is bleeding me dry."
However, as he shone his flashlight into the store, he saw shadows of
people moving within, and he kicked open the door and drew his gun. He
was shocked to see the mutants/Morlocks Electric Eve and Litterbug (the
latter of whose humanoid-insectoid form made him clearly at least not a
mainstream human; although Garrett did not know who or what they were).
Garrett shouted for them not to move and called for Phipps to get in
there, but then Postman, leader of this group of Morlocks called his
attention and then caused Garrett to fall to the ground, unconscious
and apparently forgetting what a gun was. Postman took his gun.
After the Morlocks had escaped,
Phipps entered the store and asked Garrett if he was alright and what
was going on. The reviving Garrett told him that his head was fuzzy but
that he had seen some mutants. Helping Garrett to his feet, Phipps told
him that he was lucky to be alive and that "those things" weren't
supposed to congregate this far north and not in the winter.
When Phipps asked Garrett where
was his gun, Garrett asked what a gun was. Phipps decided that they
should call this in immediately, telling them they had Morlocks.
(Morlocks I#1 - BTS) - The back-up police officers confronted Postman's Morlock group but were overwhelmed, defeated and left behind as they escaped.
