History:

(Two-Gun Kid II#37/5 (fb) - BTS) - The Mango Kid had established a murderous reputation of killing those who had met him to maintain his anonymity, ensuring that no one knew his appearance. However, Marshal Wade Garrett had managed to pick up the Mango Kid's trail and pursued the outlaw. Elsewhere, with the passing of their sheriff Job Wyant, the townsfolk of Desert's End sought a new sheriff to protect them from outlaws. The governor dispatched a marshal until a new sheriff could be found, but word had spread that the nefarious Mango Kid was in the area.

(Two-Gun Kid II#37/5) - The Mango Kid rode in as a stranger into Desert's End. With his clean-shaven good looks, the townsfolk assumed he was the marshal and told him of the Mango Kid. The outlaw maintained the ruse and led a posse to meet the one who the Mango Kid knew was a lawman following him. But quick reflexes saved the unshaven and rough-looking marshal, and he shot back at the Mango Kid, killing him. This taught the townsfolk not to judge by appearances.

Comments: Created by Stan Lee & George Tuska.

"Mango" sure is a curious name for a western frontier Kid. Was it for his smooth-skinned complexion like the mango fruit? It's apparently a slang Spanish term in Central America denoting attractive (but this seems more recent and based on the sweet fruit). Likely it's derived from the Latin meaning dealer or trader. (Unless this one's for "man, go!").

CLARIFICATIONS :
Mango Kid has no known connections to:

Wade Garrett

Marshal Wade Garrett pursued the nefarious Mango Kid through the Texan hinterland. When the outlaw had been mistaken for a marshal by the townsfolk of Desert's End because of his clean shaven looks, he led a posse to kill the hunting lawman. Marshal Garrett's rough and unshaven appearance led the townsfolk to assume he was the outlaw, but Garrett's quick reflexes saved him from gunfire. He shot back and killed the Mango Kid. Garrett's marshal's star proved his identity and the townsfolk learned not to judge by appearances.
