Powers/Abilities: Butch was a relatively large man and a reasonably experienced fighter, and he was also able to drive automobiles and motorcycles of his time.

    He was honorable enough to allow an opponent to get to his feet before striking him.

    He liked to paraphrase Shakespeare, notably to some degree in his slang dialect.

History:
(USA Comics#5/4) - A homeless man living in the city dump, Butch Brogan enjoyed his life of leisure, without work or worry.

    One day, he found a book on the complete works of Shakespeare. Reading Hamlet, Butch was intrigued and began reading quotes to his friends, who mocked him for it, especially when he dressed like Hamlet.

    Annoyed by his companions' mocking, Butch wandered into town, and he happened upon the presumably wealthy Mrs. Upsnoot right after a pair of criminals had stolen her dog, Fifi, with the intent of ransoming her back to her owner.

    Hearing her cries of distress and apparently inspired by his recent readings, Butch approached Mrs. Upsnoot and assured her that he would recover her dog; she promised him a reward if he did so, and as he departed, she told him that she lived on Grove Street.

    Observing the dog-snatchers departing in a car, Butch borrowed a nearby motorcycle, assuring its irate owner that he would return it in due time.

    Following the men in their shack on the edge of town and then and confronting them, Butch dodged a punch from one of the criminals before flooring him with a punch.

    Before Butch could similarly dispatch the other criminal, however, the man hurled footstool at him, taking out his legs, and knocking him down long enough for the man to take on in the motorcycle Butch had driven there.

    Tying up the criminal he had dropped and taking Fifi with him as he following the fleeing man in the criminals' car, Butch took a shortcut to cut off the criminal on the motorcycle.

    After the man fell off the cycle to avoid striking the car, Butch gave him a chance to get to his feet before charging and ramming him in the abdomen with his head, incapacitating him.

    Butch then drove the two dog-snatchers to the home of Mrs. Upsnoot where the police arrested them, after which she prepared to make out a check to Butch for the reward.

    Butch thanked her from the bottom of his heart, after which she gave him a bonus kiss on the cheek.

    Blushing, he paraphrased Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, "What fools us mortal's is!"

Comments: Created by an unidentified writer, Malcolm Kildale and apparently another, unidentified penciler.

    Butch didn't use any aliases in his appearance.

    "The Fighting Hobo" was the title of the story.

    The last panel advised readers to "Follow the further adventures of Butch Brogan, the Happy Hobo, in the next issue of U.S.A. Comics.

    And one narrative/text box referred to him as "The gallant tramp," which was mostly just a descriptor.

    However, as he was called the Fighting Hobo as the title and that is the most definitive way to describe him, I went with that for the profile title.
