Powers/Abilities: Ellene Gorko had experience in interdimensional physics, and likely expertise in at least another field.

    While dwelling in Kargul's castle, she had access to technology to transport herself and/or other across time and realities, and she was assisted by a number of servants, some with superhuman powers and/or weapons.

    Therein, she also wielded an energy blaster that was capable of knocking Thor (Dargo Ktor) off of his feet.

History:
(Thor Corps#1 (fb) - BTS) - Scientists Hallan and Ellene Gorko were married.

(Thor Corps#3 (fb)) - Hallan at least believed himself to love (or remembered that he had loved) Ellene with every fiber of his being. He similarly considered her to be the central focus of his world.

(Thor Corps#4 (fb)) - Ellene at least believed that her love for Hallan was much greater than his love for her and that she could not compete with his true mistress: He was bewitched with the desire to explore other planes of reality, and he became obsessed with his work, shutting Ellene out of his life until they became little more than strangers.

(Thor Corps#4 (fb)) <Per Ellene's account> - Ellene never even knew that Hallan was planning to open a dimensional rift until she accidentally stumbled upon his employer, Citizen Dunbar. She asked what he was doing with her husband's equipment, and he replied that there seemed to be a defect in this power conduit. Ellene immediately shouted a warning, but she later wondered if she was an instant too late, or if, like usual, Hallan merely ignored her.

    Ellene was horrified to find that the accident had somehow transformed him into something that was no longer quite human, but she still loved him. Desperate to find a cure, she convinced Dunbar to continue funding Hallan's work. She was determined to harness the terrible energies that had mutated Hallan, but something went wrong and she was accidentally sucked through a dimensional rift.

(Thor Corps#1 (fb) - BTS) - Upon hearing of Ellene's fate, Hallan Gorko blamed Dunbar for all his troubles. Dunbar had him placed in a special sanitarium where he could be cared for. However, Hallan escaped and became the dimension-traveling, costumed Demonstaff.

(Thor Corps#1 (fb) - BTS / Thor Corps#4 (fb) - BTS)  - As Demonstaff, Hallan used a miniature Dimensionizer within his staff, which he believed to power his dimensional travel. However, unbeknownst to him, the Dimensionizer never actually worked, and the power was actually within Demonstaff himself.

(Thor Corps#4 (fb)) <Per Ellene's account> - After possibly days or weeks, Ellene was rescued by Psilord, an agent of Warlord Kargul, and brought to the hidden world of Elsewhen, which dwelled at the center of the "chosen realities." Kargul volunteered to help Ellene return home, which proved to be a massive task involving sorting through countless alternate realities. By the time they had finally located the correct reality (Earth-8710), Hallan had already become convinced that she had betrayed him, and he sought her death.

(Thor Corps#1 (fb) - BTS) - After scouring the myriad planes of reality, Demonstaff finally managed to locate his errant wife. Aware that there may some unpleasant obstacles in the path to Ellene, Demonstaff resolved to manipulate others to find her instead. 

(Thor Corps#1 - BTS)  - Seeking to locate Ellene, Demonstaff assaulted Adcore and stole a piece of circuitry to help him in his search. He subsequently kidnapped Salla, the wife of Dargo Ktor, who was that timeline/time period's Thor, to force his compliance in locating Ellene. Not trusting Dargo alone to the task, Demonstaff additionally summoned Beta Ray Bill and Thunderstrike.

    As the Thor Corps tried to follow her, Ellene told them that she was no prisoner but rather a fugitive, a runaway seeking sanctuary from Hallan Gorko. She explained that her cunning husband had no intention of liberating her, as his sole desire was to see her dead. Activating technology within Kargul's castle, Ellene sent each of her pursuers through a portal to a different reality and time period: Dargo arrived in Earth-928 circa 2099 A.D. where he encountered Spider-Man (Miguel O'Hara); Beta Ray Bill arrived in Earth-691's 31^st Century and encountered the Guardians of the Galaxy (Charlie-27, Major Victory/Vance Astro, Nikki, Starhawk/Aleta & Talon); and Masterson arrived in Earth-616's latter 19^th Century's Old West amidst Kid Colt, the Rawhide Kid and the Two-Gun Kid.

(Thor Corps#2 - BTS) - Meanwhile, Kargul led his forces to Earth-8710 where they seemingly confronted and slew Demonstaff, only to discover that he had garbed Dunbar in a Demonstaff costume and left him to be slain in his stead.

    Demonstaff subsequently informed his captive Salla that his true goal was the total breakdown of all physical reality because his entire world was destroyed when his beautiful wife betrayed him. He further added that she had been the center of his life yet she had conspired with Dunbar to destroy him and steal his work: "If I can't be happy, why should anyone else?"

(Thor Corps#3) - Salla told Demonstaff that if he was half as powerful as he claimed to be that he would find a way to win her back, altering the past and healing the rift between them.

(Thor Corps#3) - Traveling back in time to the time of the accident that had changed him, Demonstaff attempted to eliminate Dunbar to prevent the accident that ruined his life. However, in his haste, Demonstaff missed his target and struck his own equipment, and he realized that it had not been Dunbar that had caused the accident but rather himself.

(Thor Corps#3 - BTS) - Demonstaff subsequently appreciated that perhaps he had only blasted Hallan Gorko in a parallel universe. 

    Salla later suggested to Demonstaff that Ellene had loved him once and could do so again, but he then took off his mask and revealed that he was now an energy being that no woman could ever love.

    As Demonstaff's efforts caused various realities and time periods to merge/overlap, Bill, Dargo and Masterson all returned to the space between dimensions. At Bill's guidance, they united their hammers and took advantage the weakened barriers to summon Thor Odinson to join them against Demonstaff.

(Thor Corps#4) - Ellene noted Kargul's grim and desperate nature, and he told her that they and the chosen realities stood on the eve of annihilation and that her mad husband had unloosed total anarchy upon an unsuspecting universe. When she asked if there was no hope at all, the Thor Corps arrived and assured her that there was always hope while life endured. After Ellene had related her and her husband's histories (or, at least her version of them, see comments), Demonstaff confronted them, noting that the there was no truth and that it was all an illusion.

    Ellene watched silently as Demonstaff convinced Dargo to accompany him to see Salla.

(Thor Corps#4 (fb) - BTS) - Odinson used his Mjolnir to track Demonstaff to an interdimensional void, and he transported himself, Bill and Masterson there.

(Thor Corps#4 - BTS) - After Thor Odinson cleared a path to Demonstaff, Bill shattered his dimensionizer staff, the source of his powers. However, while Demonstaff's creatures were sent back to their places of origin, the various dimensions continued to collapse upon themselves. To counteract this, Odinson led the rest of the Corps to place their mallets, call upon the enchanted forces within, collectively become one with their hammers and use the energies to bolster the sagging dimensional boundaries.

(Thor Corps#4 - BTS) - While this was only a temporary measure, Ellene, who had been observing remotely via Kargul's scrying pool, dove into the pool. Kargul asked her if she had gone mad, and she told him, "Perhaps...our only hope may lie in an act of madness." She emerged to confront Demonstaff, telling him that he had gone too far and must end this madness at once. He countered that they had the best seats in the house for the biggest bang in human history and told her to behold the chaos she had spawned. Ellene told him to stop blaming her for his failings, reminding him that he had been so obsessed with his work that he had had no room in his life for her. She advised him that she had never betrayed him but that his own indifference had driven her away.

    While not willing to concede that he was somewhat at fault, Demonstaff told her that he had lost his ability to warp realities, but she informed him that the dimensionizer had never functioned properly and that the reality-warping power was within his form. He first considered that that meant that he still had the power to destroy her, and she told him that if she was the one he hated to go ahead and kill her, but she begged him to repair the damage he had caused. Demonstaff replied that he had no reason to believe a single word that she had spoken nor had he any proof that he could trust her, but he realized that he still loved her. Ellene tried to talk to him further, but he replied that there was no time, and he used all of his power to fully restore the interdimensional barriers.

    Demonstaff's origin was shown four separate times, each from a different perspective, so its not exactly clear what happened. I went with the final version, as Ellene seemed the most unbiased of the group, but it may be that Dunbar did tamper with Gorko's equipment and cause the explosion.

    The group of Thor characters didn't actually call themselves the Thor Corps in this story, but it was the title of the series, and the name was used in narrative and has been subsequently used in-story and in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, etc.

    Additionally, I don't know that Ellene's last name was ever given as Gorko, and we don't know that adopting the husband's last name was the convention circa the 26^th Century A.D.

(Thor Corps#1 (fb) - BTS) <Per Dunbar's account> - As part of its service to the community, Adcore funded certain worthwhile scientific enterprises. Hallan Gorko was a brilliant scientist, a true visionary with an interest in exploring the very nature of reality. He was convinced he could explore alternate worlds and parallel realities; however, his first attempt to open a dimensional rift nearly proved fatal.

(Thor Corps#1 (fb)) - Unwilling to risk human lives, Dunbar was determined to cancel the project. Although tearful over Hallan's hospitalized state, Ellene eventually convinced Dunbar that her husband's work was too  important to abandon. Ellene was so persuasive that Dunbar took a personal interest in the project. Using Hallan's notes for a basis, Ellene and Dunbar expanded on his theories...and took them in startling new dimensions. Eventually, after countless false starts and grueling works shifts, the two cobbled together the Dimensionizer -- a, device capable of piercing the dimensional barriers. Blinded by their initial successes, they rushed to test it, but during a critical phase of the experiment, Ellene was accidentally sucked through a dimensional rift; Dunbar apparently believed that Ellene had been instantly killed.

(Thor Corps#1 (fb) - BTS)  - Hallan Gorko went mad with grief upon hearing of Ellene's fate. Refusing to accept his wife's fate, he blamed Dunbar for all his troubles. For Hallan's own good, Dunbar had him placed in a special sanitarium where he could be cared for. However, Hallan escaped and became the dimension-traveling, costumed Demonstaff.
