History:
(
Dances with Demons#1) - Attending high school in Beverly Hills, Dickerson enjoyed surfing with James Owl, whom he called "Red," little caring that the term was somewhat derogatory for a Native American. James did not allow it to bother him.dickerson-ghostdancer-post

(Dances with Demons#1) - As James Owl told his friends Mikey and Patti about his dreams about his grandfather (Nathaniel Great Owl) being a magical being, Dickerson called to "Red." Patti told Dickerson that James had a name, and Dickerson acknowledged this but replied, "Red here doesn't mind, because he knows I'm a better surfer than he is. Right, Red?" Perhaps tired from lack of sleep, James replied, "Sure, Dickerson. Whatever you say." As Dickerson headed out, he told James that the guys were going down to the bay later and asked if he was going to be there. James told him that he guessed so.

Patti subsequently asked James why he let Dickerson talk to him that way, practically abusing him because of his race. James told Patti to lighten up, as school was out and there was sun, surf and "you-know-what" (presumably opportunities for romance?).

(Dances with Demons#1 (fb) - BTS) - Dickerson and James surfed for a while.

(Dances with Demons#1) - When James headed in, Dickerson asked, "What's the deal, Red? Quitting early?" James told him he was just taking a break and that he didn't sleep too well last night.

(Dances with Demons#1 - BTS) - Lying on the beach, James dozed off and had another dream about his grandfather, after which he left and sought out Mike and Patti.

James subsequently became involved with his mystic destiny, and I don't know if he ever surfed with Dickerson again...

Comments: Created by Simon Jowett and Charlie Adlard.

Why not give him a first name? It just makes characters less memorable....

Not having appeared since 1993, in Marvel Time, Dickerson should age about a year for every 5 years real time. Assuming Dickerson was 18-years-old at the time of this story, in 2026, at the time this story was published, he would be 24-25 years old.

This profile was completed 10/31/2025, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary 's celebratory event.
