History:
(Flintstone Kids#5/3 (fb) - BTS) - Even in the
prehistoric era, vampires had become the stuff of legend used to scare
people and children.
(Flintstone
Kids#5/3) - By chance, the hiking children Freddy Flintstone, Philo
Quartz and Barney Rubble stopped in the evening to camp, not realizing
they were near vampire Count Drockula's mountain cave lair. Barney told
a story of a vampire, but Freddy interrupted, too focused on food. A
storm suddenly erupted and the children fled for cover to the open
cave. Freddy ran back for the picnic food giant meat drumstick and
T-bone steak while the other two clambered up the cliff and eventually
made it inside the cave. Count Drockula menacingly greeted them,
teleporting to block their escape and quickly hypnotized the pair so
they fell asleep, intending to drink their blood. Meanwhile, Freddy had
recovered the food and scaled the mountainside when he saw his friends'
predicament. Hearing noise, Drockula sent his bat Boris to investigate,
but Freddy knocked it down with a well-aimed drumstick. Drockula went
out to inspect. Remembering vampiric lore, Freddy hoped a meat steak would work as good as a wooden stake
to the heart (given the words' same pronunciation), and slapped
Drockula on the chest with the T-bone steak. Drockula felt that he had
been defeated and teleported away in mist, but threatened Freddy with a
future encounter. Philo and Barney quickly recovered, the rain stopped
and there was a clear sunrise.
Comments: Created by Michael Gallagher & Warren Kremer.
Count Drockula is, of course, the rock-themed Flintstones version of Count Dracula.
I guess it's implied that Count Drockula caused the
sudden bad weather so that the children would seek his cave as the only
nearby shelter, given that the bad weather disappeared immediately
after Drockula did (but where did he go to?).
Does he have any relation to Count Rockula, who
menaced the adult Fred Flintstone in "The New Fred and Barney Show" and
"The Flintstone Comedy Show" TV cartoons (around 1979)? Similar vampire
archetype appearance but a slight change in clothing (after a couple of
decades, maybe that's ok!), but the name is nevertheless different.
Profile by Grendel Prime.
CLARIFICATIONS
:
Count Drockula has no known connections to:
Boris was Count Drockula's favored bat, like a
familiar, and would obey his commands. It fluttered nearby ready to do
Drockula's bidding. At one point, Drockula was distracted by a hidden
young Freddy Flintstone near Drockula's cave hideout in Vampire Valley,
and the vampire sent Boris out to investigate. But Freddy's sharp
aim knocked down the bat with a picnic drumstick.
