History:
(Commando Adventures I#1/5) - Cha-Wung attended a meeting with top
generals of the People's Republic of China. Cha-Wung had been designing
new rocket weapons and suggested to the generals that these weapons
would enable China to permanently crush resistance on the island of
Formosa. The generals were impressed and asked him how long it would
take him to begin production. Cha-Wung replied that in one month, the
first rockets would be ready.
One night, a military force from Formosa led by Captain Kang invaded China and broke into Cha-Wung's home and kidnapped him. Captain Kang and his men brought Cha-Wung back to Formosa, halting China's rocket program. Cha-Wung was a loyal Chinese citizen, a dedicated Communist, and repeatedly refused to assist the forces of Formosa when they asked him to build his rocket weapons for their military. However, Formosa ultimately offered Cha-Wung something China couldn't: freedom. Won over by their promises, Cha-Wung agreed to build rockets for Formosa and after a month, the first rockets were prepared and launched against China.

This character's appearance was in a recurring feature called "The Fight for Freedom," which told many similar stories of people resisting Communist dictatorships around the world.
Formosa, of course, is now known as Taiwan.

Cha-Wung should not be confused with:
Captain Kang was an officer in the Formosa military. Captain Kang led the effort to infiltrate China and confront Cha-Wung. He and his men piloted steel boats and rammed them into the Chinese military cannons on the shore. Captain Kang kidnapped Cha-Wung and brought him back to Formosa, where they asked him to build his rocket weapons for Formosa rather than China. Cha-Wung was finally won over to their side because they offered him freedom.
