History:
(Yondu I#4 (fb) - BTS) - Children Babatuku and Yondu
were best friends on their home planet of Centauri IV. Babatuku listened
to elder Chondu's wise proverbs.
(Yondu I#4 (fb)) - Like other Centaurians, Babatuku
marveled at the sudden arrival of the benevolent alien spacefarers the
Syneca, who wished to share advanced communications technology in
exchange for
common Centaurian yaka ore. While other Centaurians were in awe of the
Syneca, Yondu secretly craved to fly their advanced speeders and
encouraged the cautious Babatuku to join him in looking over an
unattended speeder. Babatuku foolishly followed Yondu inside the
speeder and the troublemaker had worked out the controls sufficiently
to make it move. Babatuku was scared of the increasing speed and Yondu
lost control, smashing into the elders' temple where falling debris
killed Chondu. Both only superficially injured, Babatuku wanted to
follow religious rites for the dead elder, but Yondu bullied his friend
to pretending they hadn't been involved and blaming the Syneca instead,
But the crash caused much disturbance, particularly with the Syneca,
who demanded justice. Babatuku later confessed and Yondu was blamed for
the incident; this led to Yondu becoming a child outcast and permanent
exile.
(Yondu I#4) - In the current era, Yondu related this part
of his history to his Earth-691 "descendant" (with the same name).

Yondu Udonta is defined here as the Earth-616 version to differentiate him from his same-named (and more widely storied) Earth-691 "descendant" (of the original Guardians of the Galaxy from an alternate future).

Chondu was an elder of a peaceful settlement on Centauri IV where Yondu and Babatuku lived. He spoke in wise proverbs and was likely one of the elders who welcomed and met with the visiting benevolent Seneca aliens. However, Yondu stole a Seneca speeder (with Babatuku as an unwilling passenger) and lost control, crashing it into the elders' temple where debris flattened Chondu and killed him.
