History:
(King in Black: Thunderbolts#1 (fb)) - When the Kingpin decided to form
a team of Thunderbolts to oppose the invasion of Earth by the symbiote
god Knull, Ampere was among the criminals he assembled at New York City
Hall. Along with Incendiary, Ampere was skeptical of going on what he
perceived as a suicide mission. Incendiary declined Kingpin's "offer"
and said he'd rather go to prison but when the guards taking him away
shot him for "trying to escape custody," Ampere changed his mind and
decided to be a Thunderbolt. He and the others were given contracts,
NDAs and information about their first mission: meeting Norman Osborn at
the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane.
The team had barely made it out to
the symbiote-infested streets of Midtown Manhattan before they came
under attack by one of Knull's dragons. It killed Snakehead and threw
most of the rest of the team, including Ampere, into disarray, before
Mister Fear distracted it with fear gas and Star decapitated it with an
energy blast before fainting. This one battle and its results were
enough for Ampere to call it quits, declaring that the Kingpin could
deal with him when he found him. In response, Fear impaled him from
behind on his sword, killing him. Taskmaster and Batroc then stole his
electrical projectors off his corpse. As the Thunderbolts left to
continue their mission, a symbiote slithered out and took control of
Ampere's body.
As the remaining Thunderbolts made
their way through the city, they were attacked by a symbiote that leapt
off a roof, landing on Mister Fear. Taskmaster swiftly decapitated it
with his now electrically-charged sword and the team were surprised to
discover it was Ampere inside the symbiote. Taskmaster noted not to let
the "goop" touch them.
(King in Black: Thunderbolts I#3 - BTS) - Later, believing
the Thunderbolts to have died, the Kingpin produced a memorial video for
them, including Ampere. He was interrupted mid-recording by the arrival
of the team, who had only appeared to die thanks to an illusion.
Comments: Created by Matthew Roseberg and Jose
Ferreyra.
Ampere mostly seemed to be a coward.
Part of that includes that we never see him even attempt to fight the
symbiote dragon and so we only see his weapons used by other people. I
assume their effects were the same when he was using them. His height
was also tough to estimate because of some somewhat inconsistent art but
he appeared to be around Mister Fear's height most of the time.
Technically, I'm not sure "Ampere's dead body being piloted around by a symbiote" is really the same character but it felt incomplete not to include it here.
