History:
(King in Black: Thunderbolts#1 (fb)) - Hoping to impress the public by
assembling a team of Thunderbolts to oppose the invasion of Earth by the
symbiote god Knull, the Kingpin recruited a number of super-criminals,
including Snakehead. He brought them together for a meeting in New York
City Hall and explained that they could either follow his instructions
or go to prison. After one of the recruits, Incendiary, was executed for
choosing prison, Snakehead and the others agreed to Fisk's terms. They
were given generous contracts and information about meeting Norman
Osborn at the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane and told
not to wear their masks because they were government agents and not
lawless vigilantes.
Heading out into the
symbiote-infested streets of Midtown Manhattan, the team bickered about
whether the name "Thunderbolts" was any good. As Snakehead was
questioning whether a thunderbolt was even a real thing, one of Knull's
symbiote dragons attacked. Narrowly missing Mister Fear, who had bent
down to investigate a shiny object, the dragon instead bit Snakehead in
half. In response to Star's query about Snakehead's status, Fear
confirmed that she was very dead.
(King in Black: Thunderbolts#3 - BTS) - Later, believing
the Thunderbolts to have died, thanks to the team producing an illusion
to that effect, Kingpin began to produce a memorial broadcast about
them, including Snakehead. The recording session was interrupted by the
arrival of the surviving Thunderbolts.
Comments: Created by Matthew Rosenberg and Juan
Ferreyra.
Snakehead has sort of an unintuitive name
and aesthetic for a teleporter. Conceivably, she's named after the
snakehead fishes of the genus Channa, well-known for their ability
to travel between bodies of water using a specialized air-breathing
ability? Her costume doesn't look like a fish, though. It looks somewhat
more like a snake. Maybe she's a Sidewinder fangirl.
It seems like her power was probably part of
her biology rather than a piece of gear because the other Thunderbolts
could probably have recovered the latter. On the other hand, if a
teleportation device had been stored anywhere above her waist, it would
have been inside a dead dragon and finding it may have been too
unappealing a prospect.
