History:
(Machine Man I#1 (fb) - BTS) - X-3 was one of the X-Model robots constructed by Dr. Oliver Broadhurst at the Broadhurst Research Center. Unfortunately, X-3, like nearly all of its fellow robots, proved have an unstable robotic brain, suffering from an existential crisis which turned them violent. X-3 had to be dismantled; Dr. Broadhurst kept X-3's head in his office.
(Machine Man I#1) - As Dr. Broadhurst explained what had happened to the X-Model robots to a Washington bureaucrat, he took down X-3's head to use as a prop in explaining how his experiments had failed.
(2020 Machine Man I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Arno Stark and Sunset Bain recovered the remains of X-3 and its fellow X-Model robots, then rebuilt them entirely. Stripping the X-Models of their free will, Arno placed them all under his control with a malware device he installed inside their chests.
(2020 Machine Man I#1) - X-3 and its fellow X-Model robots assaulted Machine Man at a Baintronics facility in New Jersey. The robots swarmed him but Machine Man discovered he could silence the signal being broadcast by Stark and Bain. Without the malware, X-3 and each of his fellow X-Model robots became overwhelmed by the same existential crisis they'd suffered before. When Baintronics robots arrived and attempted to pacify them, the X-Model robots rebelled against them, giving Machine Man the chaos he needed to escape.
