History:
(Avengers Assemble II#3) - After joining the violent, anti-vampire Nightstalkers group led by Abby Morris, the Baalist blood-drinking vampire hunter Coma joined the team in an attack on New York's North Brother Island, an island populated by non-violent civilian vampires. Abby quickly began killing nearby vampires and, knowing that Voracious enjoyed drinking vampire blood, ordered Voracious to target the vampire children as mercy killings. As the battle progressed and the Avengers Emergency Response Squad arrived to rescue the civilian vampires, they found Voracious targeting an elderly woman vampire. Feeling as if the Nightstalkers' entire attack wasn't right, Lightning transformed into his electrical form and tackled Voracious, drawing the attention of Voracious' electricity-devouring teammate, Coma. Voracious then turned his attention toward the vampire Danny and his human lover but the heroi Lightspeed scooped them up seconds before Voracious' energy attack hit them. Overhearing Danny's lover assure him that she had his back, Voracious proclaimed Danny's lover to be a traitor to the human race but Lightspeed responded by punching Voracious into a nearby bus. Recovering quickly, Voracious fired an energy blast at Lightspeed and attempted to convince her that she was fighting on the wrong side but she remained unconvinced. Voracious' battle against Lightspeed continued with Voracious projecting energy at her from his mouth, which she avoided them feigned a charge at him before flying up and slamming down onto Voracious from a high altitude, effectively downing the pseudo-vampire. The rest of the Avengers Emergency Response Squad then rounded up the other Nightstalkers, taking them into custody to face justice in the Vampire Nation.

Comments: Created by Steve Orlando, Marcelo Ferreira and Roberto Poggi.

It was never explained how Voracious was able to project energy from his hands and mouth, as that wasn't a typical ability possessed by other Baalists seen in the Marvel Universe. It's possible the ability was some form of magic but we really don't know one way or the other. Additionally, the energy projected by him resembled lava or superheated ash of some sort, which may factor in to the origins of this ability, but it was never specified what type of energy it was.

Abby Morris' Nightstalkers are not to be confused with the original Nightstalkers, aka Borderline Investigations, that counted Frank Drake, Hannibal King and Blade among their number.

Profile by Proto-Man.

CLARIFICATIONS:

Danny

Danny was a civilian vampire living on New York's North Brother Island alongside numerous other non-violent vampire civilians. He was in a relationship with a human woman. When the Nightstalkers attacked North Brother Island, Danny was attacked by Voracious but rescued by Lightspeed of the Avengers' Emergency Response Squad. His lover tried to assure Danny that she always had his back as Lightspeed got them both to safety.
