SHROUD GUN

Classification: Terrestrial technology

Creator: Unidentified Deviant engineers

User/Possessors: Ajak, Deviants

First Appearance: Eternals I#1 (July, 1976)

Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Shroud Gun fires a cloth shroud made of unidentified materials that whirls out of the gun barrel and quickly wraps around its target. A person wrapped within the shroud cannot see or hear anything.

History:

(Eternals I#1) - When Warlord Kro led a team of Deviant soldiers into the City of the Space Gods in Peru in an attempt to prevent the Fourth Host of the Celestials from landing on Earth by destroying the Cosmic Beacon, Kro and his men engaged Ikaris of the Eternals in combat. One of the Deviant officers fired his Shroud Gun at Ikaris, encasing him. Kro attempted to destroy the Cosmic Beacon but was too late to prevent the Fourth Host's arrival. Margo Damian helped remove Ikaris from the shroud.

(Thor I#284) - When Thor entered the City of the Space Gods, Ajak attempted to confine him for trespassing and used a Shroud Gun (likely left behind from Kro's invasion) to fire a shroud at Thor. Although the shroud quickly wrapped around Thor, his enchanted hammer Mjolnir immediately tore through the shroud, setting himself free. Ajak admitted he'd forgotten how powerful Thor was.

Comments: Created by Jack Kirby and John Verpoorten.

When you're launching your new super-hero series, it's important to show the audience a scene where the protagonist is confounded by being wrapped in a blanket.
