History:
(Journey into Mystery I#111 (fb) - BTS) - The being called the Phantom Whose Touch Means Death was spoken of in Asgard as a name which frightened children. It was said to have originated in "a foreign universe."
(Journey into Mystery I#111) - When Balder the Brave was entrusted with a message to deliver to Hardol the Healer, who lived beyond the Molten Chasm, he encountered the Phantom Whose Touch Means Death while he was riding between the Swamps of Endless Flame and the Forest of Eternal Nightmare Plants. Unwilling to turn aside, Balder attacked the Phantom Whose Touch Means Death and hurled his magic sword at it; the sword, which had been enchanted by Odin, proved more powerful than the Phantom and destroyed it, leaving the path clear for Balder.
