(Howard the Duck I#6) - While traveling through the
Pennsylvania mountains on his way back home from the American Ball
Manufacturers Association convention, Joe Mountbatten was distracted
with thoughts of his triumphant sales deal that he nearly hit the
hitchhiking Howard the Duck and Beverly Switzler in the road. Taken
aback by Beverly's beauty, Joe nonetheless was appalled at the
"hideous" and "monstrous" Howard and in his terror, he lost control of
the car's steering wheel, almost running over the two hitchhikers, who
ducked out of the way of Joe's car. Despite the near-accident, Joe
continued driving on his way. Howard immediately yelled at Joe,
accusing him of intentionally trying to kill them, but Beverly informed
Howard that Joe could no longer hear him and suggested Howard squawk
about something original.
