History:
(Spider-Man 2099 II#9 (fb) - BTS) - In the early 21st
century a program started by Alchemax led to nuclear war had turned the
world into a dystopian wasteland. Bruce Banner had his personality
merge with that of the Hulk, emerging as the malevolent Maestro.
(Spider-Man 2099 II#10 (fb) - BTS) - Some of the world's superheroes survived the initial catastrophe, and Maestro waged war against them, keeping the trophies of his kills in a special trophy room within his castle near the ruins of the New York City. Over time, Maestro became bored with the reality that he ruled, feeling that he had achieved all there was to achieve in it and desiring to accomplish more in another world.
Among his trophies
was a Time Platform created by the late Doctor Doom, but Maestro had no
way of activating or operating it. To that end Maestro had made a deal
with a demon inhabiting the body of a woman named Strange, the Sorcerer
Supreme of Earth-928 circa 2099 A.D. who had been displaced into
Maestro's reality.
(Spider-Man 2099 II#9) - Feeling artistic, Maestro raided a nearby human settlement, killing all within it and arranging their bodies on a large sign that spelled MAESTRO near the entrance to his citadel. During that time he came across a surprise visitor to his domain, whom he initially mistook for the original, long-dead Spider-Man. Maestro correctly assumed that the newcomer had arrived to his world by time-traveling, it was in fact Miguel O'Hara of Earth-928 circa 2099 A.D. who unintentionally traveled into reality-15329. Maestro asked the Spider-Man to take him along on his journey back, but Spider-Man attempted to fool him, so Maestro angrily beat Spider-Man to the point where he could no longer stand. Maestro then took the prisoner back to his citadel and, having concocted a plan to finally leave his reality behind, put Spider-Man in the same cell with Strange.
(Spider-Man 2099 II#10) - Maestro's Minister questioned the wisdom of putting one unrestrained prisoner in the same cell with another, but Maestro brushed off his concern stating that he knew what he was doing.
(Spider-Man 2099 II#10 - BTS) - True to Maestro's plan, the demon had put a glamour spell on its host, appearing to Spider-Man as both the only friend from his world and the only way out. Strange healed Spider-Man's wounds so that he could cut her restraints, after which both made their way to Maestro's trophy room, where Spider-Man jury-rigged a power source for the Time Platform from the remains of the old Iron Man suits.
(Spider-Man 2099 II#10) - As they prepared to leave together, Maestro revealed himself to be present all along wearing the Hood's invisibility cloak and pretended to stab Strange with a fake soul dagger. The demon made it look as if its host had died, after which Spider-Man shot Maestro with a blast from a Hulkbuster armor, buying himself time to activate the Time Platform and escape back into the past of Earth-616. After his departure, both Stange's demon and Maestro ceased their act, their goal of getting Spider-Man to repair the Time Platform successfully accomplished. Maestro then used the Time Platform to travel back in time to New Mexico in an unspecified reality.
(All-New X-Factor I#20 - BTS) - After returning to the present day of Earth-616, Miguel O'Hara encountered Harrison Snow, another time-traveler from his reality of Earth-928 circa 2099. Thinking of Maestro, Miguel revealed to Snow that their shared future had been altered by an unknown time event.
(Spider-Man 2099 II#11 (fb) - BTS) - Miguel O'Hara recalled Maestro telling him that it was Alchemax that destroyed the world.Comments: Created by Peter David and William Sliney.
This Maestro's first published appearance was in All-New X-Factor I#20, which chronologically takes place after the Spider-Man 2099 II#9-10 issues that were released later.
This Maestro's physical stats are taken from his reality-9200 counterpart.
It is quite possible that this Maestro is the same one that appears in the Old Man Logan II (2016). Their history matches almost perfectly, as that Maestro also grew bored with his timeline, took the time machine from the late Doctor Doom, and used it to travel into another reality through time. The only difference is that in Old Man Logan II Maestro's time machine does not look like a Time Platform, but rather like a portal one has to step through. This could be either due to miscommunication with the artist, or because Maestro had modified the time machine in between the two stories.
Subsequent to this story, the realities associated with the future of 2099 A.D. were apparently merged into the reality of Earth-2099.
