Powers/Abilities/Functions: Floaters are one-person vehicles which have hovering capabilities. They can also move forward at terrific speeds. The operator of the Floater manipulates the vehicle using a one-handed joystick and switches on the dashboard. The Floater can be easily controlled with just one hand, leaving the operator's other hand available to operate a weapon. The Floater's windshield is made of durable materials which can resist small arms fire. Floaters have two headlights on the front of the vehicle. Floaters can also release neuro-mist, an air-based drug designed to knock opponents unconscious. Operators of a Floater usually wear a helmet with goggles for personal protection.
History:
(Captain America I#144) - In a presentation on behalf of the U.S. President, U.S. Vice-President, U.S. Secretary of Defense and other Pentagon officials, Femme Force operated Floaters in an attack against LMDs replicas of Hydra agents in order to demonstrate their capabilities in combat. Sharon Carter and Valentina de la Fontaine were among the agents upon the Floaters and they proved their worth.
(Marvel Team-Up I#82) - With Femme Force now called the S.H.I.E.L.D. Strike Force, Valentina de la Fontaine and seven other agents who had been brainwashed by the Viper piloted Floaters in an attack on Spider-Man and the Black Widow. Spider-Man wrecked one of the Floaters by smashing it against a chimney.
(Marvel Team-Up I#134) - Six S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were dispatched on Floaters to keep tabs on Jack of Hearts. When Jack grew tired of the constant observation he attacked the agents and destroyed three of the Floaters. The other agents released neuro-mist from their Floaters to neutralize him but while he was hidden by the cloud of neuro-mist, Jack simply entered a car and drove away, unobserved by the agents above.
Comments: Created by Gary Friedrich and John Romita; named by Bill Mantlo.
One assumes the vehicle has some kind of pedals in the floor -- not to mention some kind of magnetic lock tuned to the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent's boots so they don't fall off!
