History:
(Uncanny Tales I#28/1 (fb) - BTS) - The supreme Martian
warlord Aaamx began his plan to invade Earth. One thousand Martian
warriors--including Eeejj--underwent surgery to alter their exterior
appearances so that they resembled Earthmen--their bodies were so
skillfully changed that even an Earth doctor couldn't tell they were
abnormal. They were to be secretly deposited on Earth to act as a fifth
column for the regular Martian forces, to pave the way for the Martians'
attack.
(Uncanny Tales I#28/1) - And so the mighty Martian fleet was assembled and took flight; small saucer-like craft would carry the thousand false Earthlings, and huge space dreadnoughts would transport countless millions of Martian warriors, the fiercest in the galaxy.
But on the brief voyage to Earth, Eeejj voiced his concerns about the invasion--he thought it was wrong to kill the entire population of Earth since that planet had never harmed Mars; Eeejj's fellow Martians mocked him and called him an "Earth-lover".
While the dreadnoughts remained in Earth orbit, the smaller saucers landed at various points around the globe--Eeejj's group was deposited in a forest somewhere in the United States. Eeejj expressed that he believed their mission was dishonorable, because the Earthmen would not have a fair chance against them; one of his fellow infiltrators pulled out a ray gun and shot Eeejj because he spoke like a traitor. The group of Martians dispersed and left the spot hurriedly, taking for granted that Eeejj was dead.
But as night began to fall, Eeejj soon revived--he had only been stunned, and figured that the different atmosphere of Earth had deflected the ray just enough to save his life (see comments).
Realizing that his fellow Martians had turned against him, Eeejj figured his only hope was to find sanctuary with Earthlings. As he walked along a rural road, Eeejj figured that when he warned them of the invasion, Earthlings would be grateful because they would be able to put up a successful defense, then the reign of Aaamx would come to an end, and Mars would again be a planet of honor.
Then Eeejj came upon a large house--he figured the owner must be a wealthy man of influence who would know how to warn the planet after he told him his story, so he went to the house and tried to get in; but Eeejj found all the doors and windows locked, so he broke a window and climbed inside. The noise alerted an armed security attendant, who escorted Eeejj at gunpoint to the facility's supervisor. The human-like Eeejj then explained to the supervisor that he was a Martian, and he was there to warn that Earth was in peril of a Martian invasion.
But the supervisor only told the security attendant to put the near-hysterical Eeejj in a padded cell until he calmed down.
Unbeknownst to Eeejj, he had walked into the Lakeview Home for the Feeble-Minded, a mental institution, and he had been mistaken for one of its patients.
Meanwhile, high above Earth, the Martian invaders' spaceships silently hovered, waiting for the signal to attack...

This 5-page story--The Martians!--was left with an unresolved ending, so possibly it took place on an alternate Earth that was invaded.
But if it did occur on Earth-616 (mainstream Marvel Earth), maybe the Martians soon learned that their ray weapons were ineffective in the planet's atmosphere (as exemplified by their failure to kill Eeejj), so they called off the invasion and made a hasty retreat back to Mars.
Eeejj's true form was never depicted, but it was probably similar to Aaamx (see Martians sub-profile).
It remains to be explained how so many different races/beings allegedly originated from Mars.

Possibly humanoid-reptilians, these red-skinned Martians were technologically advanced compared to Earth, and they were supposedly the fiercest warriors in the galaxy. They had lived underground on their planet for centuries, so that the unsuspecting Earth scientists would see no trace of their civilization. But while Earthlings thought Mars to be a dead planet, the Martians had spent years studying Earth for an eventual invasion. Aaamx, the supreme warlord of the Martian military empire, initiated the invasion plans. He had one-thousand Martians surgically-altered to resemble Earthmen--he promised that they would be given the highest honors for allowing their handsome Martian bodies to be changed into grotesque and revolting Earth shapes. These false Earthmen were to infiltrate Earth society and act as a fifth column, committing acts of sabotage to pave the way for the main invasion force. |

The Martians invasion fleet included smaller saucer-like craft to carry the false Earthmen, and huge space dreadnoughts that transported the vast majority of the Martian warriors. The top speed of these vessels was not revealed, but they seemed to make the voyage to Earth in a relatively short time. Although their weaponry was largely unrevealed, one of the infiltrators had a handgun which projected a deadly ray; however, this ray seemed to be ineffective in Earth's atmosphere (see comments). --Uncanny Tales I#28/1 |

Lakeview Home for the Feeble-Minded Located somewhere in America, it was a mental institution for treating the psychologically disturbed. Thinking the large building was just the residence of a wealthy man, the renegade Martian Eeejj broke into it to warn about an impending Martian invasion; but when he told his story to the disbelieving staff, the human-like Eeejj became an unwilling patient of the facility. --Uncanny Tales I#28/1 |

The personnel of a mental institution, they included Collins, an armed security guard, and the facility's unidentified supervisor (possibly a psychiatrist). One night, a man broke into the building, so Collins escorted him at gunpoint to his supervisor; the man claimed he was a Martian and he tried to warn them about an imminent Martian invasion. The supervisor then ordered Collins to put the near-hysterical man in a padded cell until he calmed down. They were both unaware that the man was actually Eeejj, a Martian who had been surgically altered to appear human, and that a fleet of Martian invasion ships was orbiting Earth. --Uncanny Tales I#28/1 |

This bespectacled man was a patient confined to the Lakeview asylum; he was apparently under the delusion that he was from the planet Venus. He stood watching while a security attendant locked a new patient (actually Eeejj) in one of the rooms. Although the new patient claimed to be a Martian, the unidentified patient knew that it was an impossibility, because he had (supposedly) killed all the Martians years ago with his disintegrator ray. --Uncanny Tales I#28/1 (Comment: Although he's listed as an enemy, he was never actually seen taking any hostile actions against Eeejj; and of course, I'm only assuming that he was delusional--he could have really been one of these guys, who didn't like Martians either.) |
