History:
(Extraordinary X-Men I#1 - BTS) - During the height of the M-Pox crisis, when the Terrigen Mist released by the Inhumans was poisoning Earth's atmosphere and killing or sterilizing mutants, Mister Sinister assembled a new squad of Marauders. Coda was recruited alongside Aries, Chimera, and Azimuth to help locate and secure mutant specimens for Sinister's experiments to create a genetically superior mutant capable of surviving the Mist. Nightcrawler was one such target.
(Extraordinary X-Men I#1) - Coda and Chimera were deployed in the sewers to hunt Nightcrawler. While speaking to their teammates over comms, Coda and Chimera were surprised when their teammate Aries was dropped mid-air on top Chimera by the teleporting Nightcrawler. Coda attacked the mutant with his razor-sharp blades and quickly became annoyed by the agile Nightcrawler who easily evaded Coda's attacks after which he was kicked in the face. Seconds later Azimuth used her powers to disable the X-Man, Aries reappeared to seize Nightcrawler's unconscious body, standing over him with the rest of the Marauders as Coda bantered that Azimuth’s black hole-like mouth was “creepy,” drawing attention to her unsettling powers.
(Extraordinary X-Men I#2 (fb) - BTS) - Coda stood guard alongside Aries, Azimuth, and Chimera in the Manhattan sewers, where Mister Sinister had hidden his laboratory.
(Extraordinary X-Men I#2) - Colossus and Magik entered the Manhattan sewers to rescue Nightcrawler, only to be ambushed by Mister Sinister’s Marauders. After Chimera was knocked aside, Coda lunged at Colossus and stabbed him, mocking his size. Colossus responded with a powerful blow that flung Coda across the sewer. Coda did not recover before the tide of battle turned. Following the defeat of the Marauders, Mister Sinister arrived and swiftly incapacitated both X-Men with little effort.
(Extraordinary X-Men I#4) - Coda remained by Sinister's side during his experiments on the elephant-like mutant Mammomax, who was being subjected to the Terrigen Mist. The three imprisoned X-Men watched in horror as Mammomax seemingly melted away after his exposure to the mists.
Later that evening Coda participated in the final battle against the invading X-Men who'd come to rescue their friends. Fighting alongside Aries, the duo was eager to rip Old Man Logan apart but were unable to move after Iceman trapped them in ice after which Old Man Logan took both Marauders out with his razor-sharp claws. Shortly after Storm announced that the Marauders were down. After their defeat, Sinister revealed a cloned version of the presumed-dead Cyclops, mutated through Terrigen experimentation to attack the heroes with.
(Extraordinary X-Men I#5 (fb) - BTS) - S.H.I.E.L.D. coordinated the pickup and detention of Sinister and the Marauders, resulting in Coda, Aries, Azimuth, and Chimera being taken into custody following their defeat.
Comments: Created by Jeff Lemire, Humberto Ramos, and Victor Olazaba.
When these issues came out I was beyond excited Jeff Lemire had Mr. Sinister pick out a new group of Marauders as Culen Bunn, writer of the Magneto ongoing series, a year prior, had given the original Marauders a new purpose. After 28 years, the Marauders were finally more than Mr. Sinister's cloned cronies, having Lemire respect this storytelling was so cool to me.
During the final confrontation in Extraordinary X-Men I#4, Coda's body was ripped in half with Old Man Logan's claws. But I don't suspect it killed him, it's comics after all.
