History:
(My Own Romance#71/3 (fb) - BTS) - Ginny Beach and
Bill Boswell were in love as a young student couple at Carlton
University. Bill was a star athlete and handsome, making Ginny the envy
of many other women on campus. But she was concerned about his
whimsical approach to studies and irresponsible attitude to life.
(My
Own Romance#71/3) - Ginny
kissed Bill goodnight and watched him shamble away, charmed by his
frivolous nature. The girls back in her dorm room lightly teased her on
her romantic luck. The next morning, she met Bill and his roommate Rick
Mathers, who was secretly attracted to Ginny. Both Rick and Ginny
voiced concern at Bill's frivolous nature, but it was only then that
she recognized Rick was also in love with her and she with Rick, but
she remained committed to Bill. Soon after, the trio celebrated passing
exams by drinking at a night spot, but fled when Bill's coach neared.
Drunk, Bill irresponsibly insisted on driving and sped off
with Ginny and Rick in his car, but ran off the road. Ginny was thrown
clear but Rick and Bill lay injured. Of the pair, Ginny instinctively
went to Rick first. While the two lads were taken to hospital and
treated, Ginny thought about her relationships. She realized that
she loved Bill like a mother loves an irresponsible son, but her love
for Rick was true heartfelt romance. She visited the pair in their
shared hospital room, admitting her love was really for Rick. Bill was
not hurt by this, and Rick and Ginny kissed passionately.

This tale was later reprinted in Our Love Story #8
(December, 1970) with
modified art; this happened with many reprinted romance stories around
that time to keep the look contemporary. (The story was reprinted again
in My Love #25 (September, 1973) but no noticeable modifications from
the 1970 version). The 1970 versions of the 3 main characters are
shown at far bottom for comparison.
These romance stories often had the flavor of the time in which they were written, and nothing else to tie them into Marvel's sliding timescale. As such, it's likely that the stories took place at the time of publication rather than being part of the sliding timescale.
