HY TORQUE

Real Name: Unrevealed; "Hy Torque" might be his real name or an alias

Identity/Class: Human, technology user

Occupation: Criminal

Group Membership: None

Affiliations: Assisted by two underlings

Enemies: Iron Man

Known Relatives: None

Aliases: "Boss"

Base of Operations: New York City

First Appearance: "Iron Man in: An Irresistible Force" (Hostess Twinkies advertisement, Tomb of Dracula I#68 and other January/February 1979 issues)

Powers/Abilities: Hy Torque drove an armored car with ramming strength roughly equal to that of Iron Man's. He and his two underlings wore helmets.

History: Nothing is known about Hy Torque's past, but his reputation was such that Iron Man was familiar with him.

("Iron Man in: An Irresistible Force")- Hy Torque and his two underlings drove Torque's armored car toward the Van Ness Mansion, preparing to smash through the gates and rob the place. Iron Man, evidently alerted of their plans, confronted them in front of the mansion; finding the car's force to be equal in strength to his own, Iron Man tossed the criminals some Hostess Twinkies to distract them. While Torque and his men turned their attention to enjoying the snack cakes, Iron Man wrecked their armored car, wrapping them up in its remains and presumably leaving them for the police.

Comments: Created by an unidentified writer and artist.

Hy Torque and his two underlings might be the same people who were later known as the Bank Robbers; Torque might also have later been one of the drivers of the Rhinos (accompanied by a female partner), while the underlings might have been the drivers of the Brawn Tank.

Maybe he once worked as a design engineer for Hydra's Heavy Weapons Division.

Of all the Hostess villains, only Icemaster has shown up in an Earth-616 title. He could have crossed over to Earth-616 from "Earth-Hostess," but I say leave them on Earth-616 until proven otherwise. Nonetheless, until they do show up in regular continuity, they remain outside regular canon. Surely someone will write a story teaming them all together.---Snood.

This is not true anymore as some Hostess ad villains were mentioned in the Fantastic Four Encyclopedia as natives of Earth-616. And lets not forget about Printout Man in the New Avengers Most Wanted Files.

You can get the whole story, and some clever commentary from Seanbaby's The Hostess Page. It might not meet with the Comics Code Authority's approval, so kids, ask your parents before checking that out!---Kyle
