(Exiles#1-4) - Mustang was sent along with Catapult to locate and recruit the newest victim of the Theta virus: Timothy Halloran. However, they were both defeated by Bruut and Bloodbath. Mustang was knocked out by a blast from Bloodbath's gun, and he inadvertently discharged a burst of electricity which was conducted across a puddle of water into Bruut. Bruut was also knocked out by this, but his hand spasmed from the jolt, and he broke Mrs. Halloran's neck. Bloodbath took Timothy Halloran to Malcolm Kort. When Mustang and Catapult awakened they tried and failed to stop Bruut.
Mustang and the rest of the Exiles then tried
to rescue Halloran from Kort, but Halloran mutated into Mastodon and broke free just

Deming to nearly talk him down, but Mastodon panicked and fled

Mastodon, allowing Catapult to throw him against the ceiling in

Mustang returned to the Stronghold with the rest of the group, and was caught in the explosion caused by the interaction between Amber Hunt and the Entity from the Moon. Hurtling debris flung him from his sky-sled with such force that his neck snapped, killing him.
