Fusion is resistant to most forms of attack. He absorbed the energy of most assaults, dissolved Spider-Man's webbing by absorbing its chemical energy, and proved able to walk on the surface of water by stimulating a chemical reaction by stamping his feet. In addition, he can release portions of his energy at will to repel attackers.

Height: 4'
Weight: (individually) 80 lbs.; (Fusion) 160 lbs.
Eyes: (individually) Brown; (Fusion) White

Hubert is a brilliant nuclear physicist, who developed a hunger for power as Fusion. Hubert proved able to control the form and actions of Fusion. Pinky has no advanced training, but opposes his brother's disregard for human life and efforts to gain power. Pinky can, with effort, force a separation from their combined form. Pinky can also communicate with others while Hubert is controlling Fusion.

Neither Hubert nor Pinky has any known exceptional physical abilities, possessing the average abilities of people of their size who have dwarfism. Flesh to flesh contact between the two initiates the merging. In addition, attempts to travel even short distances from each other has caused excruciating agony and even collapse in both of them.

History:
(Amazing Spider-Man I#208) - Hubert and Pinky Fusser are identical twins. Pinky became a janitor, while Hubert became a nuclear physicist. Both became employed in a laboratory, where Hubert mocked Pinky's occupation and lack of advanced education. Hubert was working on a project involving the use of a sub-atomic particle accelerator capable of creating new elements (i.e. unstable, radioactive elements you won't see so much of on the periodic table), and dreamed of exploring the secrets of the universe. However, when he activated the accelerator, it released a burst of energy, unleashing trillions of nameless specks of raw energy into Hubert. Pinky observed the explosion, but when he attempted to help Hubert, the two merged into a single form.

The combined form, calling itself Fusion, rampaged mindlessly, draining power from everything in sight, and even fighting off Spider-Man, until Pinky forced a separation. However, when Pinky, disgusted by the experience, attempted to leave, both twins suffered intense pain. They soon recombined, and Hubert took control of the form. Enamored of the new power, Hubert continued to drain power from cars, machinery, etc. and thwart Spider-Man's every effort to stop him. When Hubert attempted to absorb the power of the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant, Pinky resisted him, causing enough of a split between their forms that Spider-Man was able to separate them completely.

(Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition#10 - BTS) - Fusion was briefly imprisoned and studied at Project: PEGASUS under Dr. Henri Sorel.

(Quasar#14 (fb) - BTS) - Under unknown circumstances, Fusion became prisoners of the Laboratory World of the Stranger.

(Quasar#14, [15-bts], 16) - The Overmind, seeking to slay the Stranger for past actions, took control of a number of the inmates (including Fusion) sending them to battle the Stranger's allies: Quasar, Makkari, and the Squadron Supreme.

(Quasar#20) - Shortly thereafter, Fusion was seen along with a number of the inmates who escaped in a starship and returned to Earth.

Comments: Created by Denny O'Neil and John Romita, jr.

Amazing Spider-Man#208 was one of the very first comics I ever read. I always thought Fusion was an excellent character with great potential. I'd love to see what they've been up to since the return to Earth. There's got to be a good Project: PEGASUS story in there for the Avengers or Defenders.

Fusion got a full entry in Marvel Legacy: The 1980s Handbook.
