First Appearance: Strange Tales I#144/2 (May, 1966)

Powers/Abilities: Asti is basically a living portal that can release numerous threats against enemies. It can also fly at great speeds, absorb magical energy, and travel between dimensions. Given its name, it presumably has great abilities to observe, detect, and locate items, beings, etc. It also may or may not have precognitive or clairvoyant abilities. It has not demonstrated any offensive powers to date.

History:
(New Avengers IV#16 (fb) - BTS) - Asti is living portal created by magic and cosmic science. (see comments)

(Strange Tales I#144/2) - Asti appeared before Dormammu, updating him on the Ancient One's progress on his mission to reach Eternity. It then left to set a trap for Doctor Strange.

(Defenders I#10) - After the Defenders and the Avengers had gathered the fragments of the power item known as the Evil Eye, Asti suddenly swooped down out of nowhere, gobbled up all of the pieces, and took off again. The heroes went after it, but it teleported away and gave the pieces to Dormammu.

(Doctor Strange II#67) - Asti was "going forth in the service of Umar" when he (it?) was captured by Rahl, a member of Clea's rebellion. Rahl literally put the bag on Asti, and told the "stupid flying face" to tell his mistress that she couldn't stop the rebellion, and the rebellion wouldn't end until she was overthrown.

(Doctor Strange II#73) - Asti appeared before Umar--the acting ruler of the Dark Dimension--warning her that the palace was being invaded by a horde of Outcasts, led by Doctor Strange.

SECRET WARS III HAPPENED

(New Avengers IV#7) - Asti joined Maker's New Revengers team. The whole team was introduced by Maker to White Tiger.

(New Avengers IV#12) - Maker promised the New Revengers that they were going to save the universe from itself and create a perfect world with the help of Roberto Da Costa's Advanced Idea Mechanics.

(New Avengers IV#13 - BTS) - Maker sent the New Revengers to the translocation bay to send them to Da Costa's Avengers Base Two for an attack.

(New Avengers IV#14) - Asti teleported into Avengers Base Two in the Savage Land and attacked the Zebra Kids in the admin section.

(New Avengers IV#15) - Asti regrouped with the other members of the New Revengers and Maker to attack united as a team. They faced off with their former teammate White Tiger (Angela Del Toro, who got rid of the control the Hand and the Tiger God had over her) and her aunt Whiter Tiger (Ava Ayala).

(New Avengers IV#16) - After the New Avengers (Cannonball, Doctor Positron, Hulkling, Power Man, Songbird, Squirrel Girl, Wiccan) teleporting in to aid the White Tigers, Maker fled and left behind the New Revengers to fight on their own. Asti attacked Wiccan by teleporting in mystical flying fish and tentacles, but Wiccan quickly realized that Asti was merely a living portal made of magic and cosmic science. Wiccan shrunk Asti down and trapped him in an energy bubble.

(Midnight Suns#3) - In the Dark Dimension Asti released giant bats against the Midnight Suns, but Kushala hijacked one of them for the whole team to fly to a nearby tower.

Comments: Created by Roy Thomas and Steve Ditko.

Thanks to Michael Fischer and Robert McKinney, who pointed out the appearance in Doctor Strange II#73 and 67, respectively. hmmm...50% ain't too bad, I guess...not.

Asti was first seen in the Dark Dimension, but it is not known if this is its place of origin, or if it was just relocated there. Similarly, it may have been captured and enslaved, or created by Dormammu.

Profile by Snood. Update by Markus Raymond (New Avengers & Midnight Suns).
