History:

(Jann of the Jungle#13/6 (fb) - BTS) - Botanist Gerald Thorne developed a technique using electrical power to augment the size and alter the activity of African jungle vines. In service to Communist Russia, he spiked a giant jungle vine with power, causing offshoot killer vines to writhe and ensnare creatures and people nearby so that they could not move. With the jungle held hostage, Thorne was about to contact the Kremlin and have them force the local government submit to Soviet demands.

(Jann of the Jungle#13/6) - Having freed herself and Pat Mahoney from killer vines, and seen animals completely restrained by the vines in the now quiet jungle, Jann traced the killer vine across the Batubi River. She was stopped from cutting the main vine by Thorne and his two henchmen. Thorne bragged about his scientific achievement and showed Jann the contraption inside the small hut that amplified the vine. Although her hands were tied, Jann's furious kicks damaged the machine and new tendrils emerged everywhere; the killer vine's activity was beyond control. They all fled with Jann carrying Thorne to show her where the vine's roots began. She cut through the roots and the killer vines relaxed; the animals were freed and helped round up the henchmen with Thorne so that the villains could be brought to justice. Mahoney took a picture of the bound fiends for his editors.
