RAGNAHORN

Classification: Asgardian item of power

Creators: Unrevealed

User/Possessors: Mr. Van Kline, Ulik

Aliases: Horn of Auohumla

First Appearance: Marvel Knights I#1 (July, 2000)

Powers/Abilities/Functions: It was the left horn of the legendary cow Auohumla. Whoever wielded it could hold sway over the Frost Giants. It is unknown whether the control the horn granted over Frost Giant was due to magical powers or due to their mere loyalty to the ancient cow, which had nurtured their species in the past and was venerated among their kind.

History:
(Marvel Knights I#1 (fb) - BTS) - The Norns revealed to Ulik that he would find the Ragnahorn at the island of Maetawa in the hand of thieves.

Ulik had businessman Mr. Dryden brought to him. Dryden was roughed up and bound to a chair.

(Marvel Knights I#1) - Ulik interrogated Dryden about the whereabouts of the Ragnahorn, but Dryden denied any knowledge. Ulik lost his patient and once more showed Dryden an image of the horn he sought to get his revenge upon Asgard and Ulik made sure to tell him that he was willing to kill to get his hands on the horn.

(Marvel Knights I#2 - BTS) - Dryden cracked and revealed that Mr. Van Kline had bought the horn.

(Marvel Knights I#2) - Dryden delivered a mobile phone to Van Kline. Ulik was on the other end of the line and demanded from Van Kline to hand over the horn. Van Kline demanded a proof of ownership or otherwise a considerable payment for the horn. Ulik got mad and threatened to bring down the pillars the city rested on if Van Kline didn't hand over the horn, but Van Kline didn't take him seriously because Ulik wasn't even willing to make him an offer personally. Van Kline hung up on Ulik and Dryden told him that it was mistake to anger Ulik. The whole time the horn was in a display cabinet among Van Kline's collection.

(Marvel Knights I#3) - Ulik began to destroy the foundation of the building Van Kline resided in. Van Kline was shocked that Ulik would go this far for a horn, but Dryden had already told him that Ulik was serious about this. Daredevil overheard their conversation and after a short fight with Van Kline's guards demanded from Van Kline to hand over the item Ulik sought. Van Kline gave in, despite the arrival of several more guards, and handed over the Ragnahorn to Daredevil. The hero headed down to where Ulik fought the Punisher and handed over the Ragnahorn to Ulik. The troll agreed to leave with his horde of trolls without causing any further damage because now he had what he needed to hold sway over the Frost Giants.

Comments: Created by Chuck Dixon, Ed Barreto & Klaus Janson.

Auohumla should have probably been spelled Auðhumbla in this story, but ð was probably too uncommon. I can absolutely see someone to look at ð and mistake it for an o, but it should be a d if it gets replaced.

BTW I could find nothing else on this horn. Apparently it was just forgotten after this story. Ulik didn't wield it the next time he was seen.

Additionally I have never seen Manhattan referred to as Maetawa before, but it had to be Manhattan because there was no other reason for Ulik to go there if he didn't already know it by that name.

In case the horn was actually the true horn of the cow its history before it was cut off and turned into an instrument can be read about in Audumbla's own profile.
