History:

(Navy Combat#18/3 (fb) - BTS) - Bradley Comstock joined the US Navy, progressing through the ranks in able service to lieutenant commander, then assigned as captain of the new aircraft carrier, the USS Intrepid.

(Navy Combat#18/3) - Comstock was met at the docks by his executive officer Mark, both admiring the new aircraft carrier. Watched by Comstock's wife and children, the ship departed Pearl Harbor with a full complement on their shakedown cruise. Well out to sea, Comstock heard the morning broadcast of the Imperial Japanese Navy's attack on Pearl Harbor on the morning of December 7, 1941. Further coded messages with U.S. Command told them only two other major US warships at sea, but to stay apart in case of attack. Comstock saw the USS Intrepid as the bulwark against Japanese Navy attacks. Not knowing the fate of their families, the crew prowled the Pacific for revenge, engaging the enemy with little rest and sustaining heavy damage. Refusing to abandon ship, Comstock kept up attacks on the Japanese Navy. Finally, other American warships, since repaired after the Pearl Harbor raid, joined the USS Intrepid. Comstock was praised for his bravery and was ordered to New York to receive honors to be joined by his family. Comstock insisted that he instead sail the wrecked ship to New York, praising his crew as the USS Intrepid entered New York harbor.

Interesting rewriting of history, or at least that's how it played out on Earth-616. In real life, only the keel of the USS Intrepid (CV-11) had been laid on the day of the raid on Pearl Harbor (December 7, 1941) and the Essex-class aircraft carrier was launched on April 26, 1943. Taking various roles, and including two decommissions, the USS Intrepid became the foundation of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City in 1982. The Museum itself was first shown in Daredevil I#323 (December, 1993). I can't find Bradley Comstock as a captain, so it looks like he's exclusive to Earth-616.
