Powers/Abilities: Dr. Timothy Bleary is a former scientist with knowledge of experimental genetics and hailed from a prestigious university on Melmac. He has the usual physical attributes of a Melmac native (compared to humans), with heightened immunity, extended lifespan (set at 650 years) and a large appetite open to many forms of food (including cats).

History:
(ALF#4/2 (fb) - BTS) - Timothy Bleary was educated at
Melmac Institute of Technology (M.I.T.). He bought a Bob Dylan album
which began his pursuit of alternative "flippie" commune culture. He
became a scientist with knowledge of experimental genetics, but left formal research to
establish and lead a flippie commune on an old lizard farm called
Woodschlock. However, the flippies eventually got haircuts and jobs,
and all departed the commune, leaving Bleary alone.
(ALF#4/2 (fb)) - Seeking new company, he took the
last small local lizard to create a new race of lizard flippies, but
accidentally dropped a loaf of rye bread into the matrix, exploding the
lab and leaving only a monstrous destructive lizard he called Modzilla.
The monster ran amok and destroyed the empty commune into smoking ruin.
By chance, orbit guard Gordon Shumway (later ALF) was passing nearby,
landed and escaped with Bleary from one of Modzilla's fiery blasts.
Seeing that Modzilla hadn't destroyed the bakery because of its allergy
to baked goods, Shumway and Bleary dropped flour on Modzilla,
inducing a massive sneezing fit that eventually expelled the chemicals
from the lizard's body and it returned to its small size. Bleary then
abandoned the flippie mindset and Woodschlock, and hoped to pursue a
profitable lecture tour and mainstream movie deal.
Bleary very likely perished with destruction
of Melmac.

Dr. Timothy Bleary is very likely a
reference to the now late Dr.
Timothy Leary, a former Harvard University academic, psychologist
and advocate of psychedelic drugs for therapeutic use in psychiatry and
to expand consciousness, as well as his communal experience with
psychedelic counterculture; Gallagher pictures Bleary with a yoga
mat(?)
from the commune (although it could even be a reference to
Steppenwolf's 1968 semi-psychedelic song "Magic Carpet Ride" or the
term for a hit of three drugs, known together as
a "magic carpet ride" (although I'm not sure when that term entered urban
usage)). Melmacian "flippies" of course refers to
alternative
lifestyle "hippies"
in human culture, while "Woodschlock" relates to the giant music
festival Woodstock
for the counterculture generation held on a former dairy farm. "Bleary"
would refer to bleary-eyed from tiredness or, um, recovery sleep.
"Modzilla" is a combination of "mod"
subculture and the kaiju Godzilla, king of monsters!

Modzilla was initially one of the little lizards from
an old lizard farm that had since been turned into the counterculture
Woodschlock "flippie" commune led by Dr. Timothy Bleary. But when all
the flippies went off to get jobs and join mainstream society, Bleary
was left all alone. Seeing one last
lizard, he drew on his scientific knowledge to use the lizard to create
a new race of lizard flippies. However, rye bread accidentally dropped
into the matrix mutated the lizard into a monstrous, malicious and
destructive beast called Modzilla that could speak, direct fiery blasts
from its mouth and smash buildings with its tail. It destroyed the
commune except for the bakery due its allergy to baked goods. Bleary,
joined by orbit guard Gordon Shumway (later ALF), bombed flour on
Modzilla. The flour caused the creature to have a long sneezing fit,
eventually expelling all the chemicals from its body and returning it
to its original small form
