History: (Loki episode "Journey into Mystery" (fb) - BTS) - An alligator claimed to be a variant of Loki, Asgardian god of mischief. After causing a Nexus Event which diverged his reality from the "Sacred Timeline," he was arrested by the Time Variance Authority. The TVA pruned Alligator Loki, sending him to the Void at the end of time where matter from destroyed timelines was consumed by the ravenous Alioth. However, Lokis had a talent for surviving where most others would not and Alligator Loki formed an alliance with other pruned Loki Variants: Classic Loki who escaped his death at the hands of Thanos, Kid Loki who managed to kill his version of Thor and Boastful Loki whose tales of exploits were not taken seriously by others.

To hide from Alioth and other survivors within the Void, the four Lokis set up a lair in the ruins of a bowling alley, and Classic Loki took it upon himself to act as Alligator Loki's translator, while Kid Loki served as the leader

(Loki episode "The Nexus Event") - While out in the Void, the four Lokis came across another freshly pruned variant of themselves, labeled L1130 by the TVA.

(Loki episode "Journey into Mystery") - The Lokis urged the newcomer to quickly get away from Alioth, and L1130 followed while spouting a multitude of questions, leading Classic Loki to compare them to being in a shark tank with Alioth as a shark for clarity. Alligator Loki suggested an alligator tank instead, but Classic Loki assured him of there being no such thing, leading L1130 to realize that the alligator was also a Loki.

The four Lokis took L1130 to their lair, where Alligator Loki settled in a small tub of water while Classic Loki poured some wine into his mouth. Boastful Loki tried to impress the newcomer with his tales, only to have Alligator Loki call him a liar to his face. Irritated, Boastful Loki threw Alligator Loki's Nexus Event of allegedly eating the wrong neighbor's cat back at him. In response, Alligator Loki jumped at Boastful Loki and the two wrestled until Classic and L1130 Lokis broke them up. After failing to rouse the others to go after Alioth, L1130 sought to kill it on its own, only to have President Loki and his Loki followers barge into the lair.

Boastful Loki bragged that he revealed their location in order to overthrow Kid Loki and take his "throne," but President Loki reneged on their deal and tried to seek the throne for himself, only for his followers to betray and threaten him in turn. At this point Alligator Loki drew attention to himself with a hiss, and when President Loki asked why there was an alligator there, Alligator Loki lunged at President Loki, biting his entire right hand clean off.

An all-out brawl ensued between the backstabbing Lokis, while Classic Loki created illusions of himself, Kid, Alligator and L1130 Lokis to join the fight, allowing the real versions to escape. Kid and Classic Loki reluctantly agreed to the newcomer L1130's plans and headed towards Alioth, but when they discovered L1130 had no real plan on how to kill it, Alligator Loki prayed in the face of seemingly certain death. They then met another variant of Loki named Sylvie as well as ex-TVA agent Mobius.

L1130 introduced the others to Sylvie, who revealed her plan to enchant Alioth in order to get through it to the person behind the TVA. Classic Loki and Mobius discussed Alligator Loki, with Mobius having no recollection of an alligator ever being pruned by the TVA and doubting whether he was a Loki at all but ultimately concluding that the alligator lying about being a Loki only made him more likely to be one.

Sylvie had with her a TVA TemPad, offering an escape from the Void, but only Mobius decided to take that option. Sylvie and L1130 were determined to face Alioth, while Kid and Classic Lokis decided to stay in the Void, which had become their new home, the Alligator Loki apparently sharing their decision. After saying goodbyes, Kid, Classic and Alligator Loki left Sylvie and L1130 to face Alioth on their own.

(Loki episode "Journey into Mystery") - Classic Loki had a change of heart and decided to help them after all, sacrificing his life to provide a necessary distraction that allowed Sylvie and L1130 to enchant and disperse Alioth.

Comments: Created by Michael Waldron.

In an article published on Marvel.com the head writer of Loki, Michael Waldron, stated that whether the alligator is truly a variant of Loki is meant to remain ambiguous both in- and out-of-universe.

The TVA assigns Variants numeric designations (such as L1247, L6792 and L7803 used for Variant Lokis and T365 used for a variant Thor), but neither Alligator Loki nor other Lokis featured inside the Void had their designation revealed on-screen. Furthermore, it is unlikely that these designations correspond to proper reality numberings since from the TVA's point of view there is only one "Sacred Timeline" and all branches of it end up being pruned.

The names "Classic," "Kid," "Boastful," "President," and "Alligator" Loki do not appear within the story itself, but are used within the show's subtitles, credits, and various promotional material. They are retained here for the sake of distinguishing between multiple different Lokis.

Alligator Loki weight thoughts

I do not think this Time Variance Authority (or Alioth) in the Loki series is the same as the Time Variance Authority (or Alioth) in the comics.

I (ye olde Snoode) questioned whether all of the information contained in the flashback history was clearly stated vs. assumed, and HBK was kind enough to spell it all out, so here it is:

All of these statements are directly extrapolated from the dialogue:

> An alligator claimed to be a Variant of Loki
Mobius' line "Who's to say he's even a Loki Variant? ... he could be lying" implies that the Alligator had at the very least made that claim to Classic Loki who could understand him.

Classic Loki: "All of us were arrested by the TVA and pruned, just like you."  Boastful Loki: "They send entire branched realities here that are devoured..."

>     Lokis had a talent for surviving where most others would not
Classic Loki: "Lokis survive. That's just what we do."

>     To hide from Alioth and other survivors within the Void, the four Lokis have set up a lair:
Boastful Loki to President Loki: "In exchange for shelter and supplies, you give me your army." Kid Loki also mentions cannibalistic marauders and cannibalistic pirates as other dangers besides Alioth.

>     Classic Loki took it upon himself to act as Alligator Loki's translator
This sentence could perhaps be lost, although Classic Loki was the only one doing the translating on three separate occasions.

Alioth...reading this only prior to teh Loki series, I always read it as sounding like "AL-ee-OTH"...but it sounds more impressive as pronounced in the series, "uh-LIE-oth."
It sounds like the Biblical giant Goliath, and it also sounds like "A lie"...makes me wonder if there's something to that.
